Actually already have it on order. It’s a 4 step rock climbing etrier that looked decent on amazon:

WILDKEN Climbing Aider 4 Step Foot Ascender Loop Climbing Rope Ladder Etrier Aid Tool for Rock Climbing Mountaineering Caving Rescue Aerial Work https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07XBQBL5B/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_eR-dEb9C7HSZZ

This will be the one I use pretty much exclusively at the base of the tree. Also I found that there’s times that it’s nice to have just a single step type aider such as in weird shaped trees or maybe periodically between sticks/steps. So also ordered this one:

WILDKEN Adjustable Climbing Ascender Sling Foot Loop Ascender Webbing Sling for Outdoor Mountaineering, Rock Climbing, Expedition, Caving, Rescue and Aerial Work https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0791VRQDM/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_kT-dEbEZ5WMRX

Those look really nice and I kinda like the idea of buying something that is made for climbing instead of making something and taking a chance on doing something wrong. So what keeps you from just putting the longer aider on all your sticks and keeping it there and having it ready in case you wanna have more height?

Yea I used bolts for a while and I’ve used muddy pros and a few other no name climbing sticks. Helium’s all the way from now on
Well I think y'all convinced me I'm gonna go the helium route. Now just have to decide on which saddle and platform.

I have the ridge runner, can’t recommend it highly enough. The only advantage I think the predator has over it is that is packs a little smaller

Yeah I agree. Always feels better using something that was made for climbing.

Well, the climbing sticks aren’t the only climbing method I use. I also use WE steps. So I’ll also be able to use them with the steps. Also there’s many times I get in trees that I don’t really need aiders for because they’re either not tall enough or they get crazy with weird branches where I can’t or don’t want to climb any higher. Then also sometimes I just don’t feel like screwing with them so I can just leave them in the bag.

I also have the RR, love it and can’t recommend it highly enough either. Would much rather be comfortable in the tree than a hair better packability. I strap mine to the back of my pack and it rides just fine and never gets snagged on anything even going through thick brush.
