XOP Platform kits?

Ernie, I'm interested in one of your kits, but I can't PM you (less than 3 posts... maybe they need to be brand new posts... not sure?). Could you reach out to me? I tried posting on your profile, but I didn't get a response.

This week's project.

OK if I decide on a platform like this, who has a good source

I can vouch for Ernie's platform. It's quality. MUCH BETTER than the DIY hack job I built.

Let me say this - if you're handy and get creative with parts (old treestand seat, brackets from a ladder or climbing stick), you can make a similar platform very inexpensively.

HOWEVER, if you're not handy and are starting from scratch, I recommend Ernie's kit. It is very well built and will last a really long time.

I'll see what I can find out. If xop is indeed down, I'll order some lone wolf parts and make sure they work. The only problem is lone wolf is almost $20 more expensive.

I just went to the XOP site and the replacement parts section is removed?

Wow, that's crazy! Did they get tired of selling to many seats to saddle hunters? I just ordered mine like 2 days ago... and... they arrived this AM, yay! I'm sure glad I ordered when I did. Sorry, if I was the straw that broke that camel's back... :flushed:
Lone Wolf has parts that are very similar: https://www.lonewolfhuntingproducts.com/shop/treestand-replacement-parts.aspx Not sure if the measurements are exact for your (Ernie's) kits or not though. Maybe you can modify worst case....
oops, I see Ernie just posted essentially this already.

Luckily I already had the seat platform when I had Ernie send me his kit, which should arrive today. Unfortunately I didn't order tree brackets yet. Hopefully lone wolf brackets will work ok for that.

The fire drill is over....

I talked the guys at XOP, and they are revamping their website and that section isn't up yet. They assure me it will be up and running and ready to take orders in the next couple days.

In the mean time, I ran up to Cabelas to compare the XOP seat i had with the Lone wolf seats. they are different. Currently the Lone wolf seats will not fit the original kit. I am getting ready to order more striker plates for the kits, and will be expanding them a little bit to be able to accommodate both seat brands. If you have a lone wolf seat and would prefer to use that before I get new plates, I can custom make the post to accommodate.

From an engineering standpoint, I think for this purpose, the XOP seat is stronger. Lone wolf has moved the adjustment screw up and closer to the pivot bolt which results in more torque being applied to the bolt. The stainless steel insert helps distribute that load out across more aluminum surface, but I still think the XOP is the better option.

On another note, the Lone wolf Offset brackets look like they could be a direct replacement for the XOP 6 point brackets if you so desire without any modifications.

Well I built a bunch of platforms this week. 7 to be exact, and I am currently shipping some of them out to guys who had asked for them. I got to thinking though, and it kind of seems dumb for me to buy brackets and seats and have them shipped to me for free from xop and then have to pay to ship completed platforms out to people.

What do you guys think about a kit that allows you to buy your own seat and brackets? I would provide the center post, steel support, upgraded hardware, and the UCR rope. It would be easy for your guys to assemble and would cut down on shipping cost. Currently its costing about $20 to ship a full platform.

I am trying to find cheaper sources for the aluminum and rope but right now I am guessing it would be $60 plus actual shipping (I am guessing less than $10) for the kit.
Are you still making or selling these kits?if so I'm interested in this idea
