My DIY ultra-light stick build....

I have thought about this and Im sure there is some sort of rule as to how far apart. My questimate would be the distance between holes would be no closer than the thickness of whatever material you are drilling. I have thought about drilling my climbing stick posts like that.
How big and how far apart would you drill holes if you were to drill holes? What's the rule of thumb on that?

I would think that would be way to close. I'm thinking more like .5" holes on 1" centers. That would leave .5" solid material between each hole.

I agree. I wouldn't go any closer then that.

Where did you get the brackets that you welded on for the steps? Wish I could find just the steps parts for sticks but no luck

Im not sure, I decided against drilling the beams because it is already 1/16" thick and what am I really going to get in weight reduction maybe a couple ounces. Is a couple ounces really worth risking your safety? Maybe better off doing smaller 12" sticks and half a step for the the bottom and a full step on top, with longer amsteel aiders. I believe @Ontariofarmer is in the process of building a set of short sticks in this fashion.

It was just some scrap I had laying around the shop. I had to cut it down a bit to make them the right size. I was planning on ordering some bar stock and cutting it down but this was free so I made it work! lol

Good deal man. My eyes are constantly peeled for things that can be used for the steps. If only LW or Hawk, etc would sell just the replacement steps. Thanks for the info

There are plenty of guys who cut off their helium's to make shorter sticks you may be able to put an ad in the classified wanting to buy the cut-offs and steps. I was able to get a set from another member of the forum who was getting rid of his cut offs.

I'm having a hard time finding a vendor that can make steps at a reasonable price. Most don't want to do it because I want such low qty.

Def doesn’t sound like its worth it unless you have access to a machine shop

What kind of steps are you looking at having built?

Sent from my SM-G955U using Tapatalk
These are the steps I have made. The machine shops here are around $100 hr for the CNC. Some are more some are less.

How close are those holes to the tread of the step?

You could make those without a CNC. Do you have access to a tablesaw and a drill press?

Your right. I have all the equipment and access to a mill. Making them myself is something I can do. If I can get them made cheap enough I would prefer to go that route.
