Finally got the Hawk tree seat figured out to make an cheap platform. It took me about an hour to make the modification and the end result is a platform that locks up solid. The tree seat was $29 at Menards, replaced the bolts with longer bolts and added some spacers ($3), cut the stand offs at an angle to give more surface contact with the tree, added an amsteel daisy chain which I had and attached an extra lone wolf cam strap. I'll add more details in the comments. Here is the final product.

Here is the Amsteel daisy chain and the longer bolts and spacer added to create a versa button. The tree seat will hang vertically after you lock it down to allow easy connection of the cam strap.

I had to grind some of the mesh out to allow for the strap to fit right to cam it over.1560943279155.png

Dang I should read everything . Wonder if you couldn’t take the seat off and drill a new bolt hole in the center of the post. Guess 6 of one, half dozen of the other. Looks good.

Looks great, and real solid. Do know what it weighs?
The tree seat alone (no straps) was just a hair over 5 lbs. The straps and hook brought me to 6 lbs total. I may look at getting rid of the lone wolf strap and go with an amsteel whoopie with a soft shackle to get back closer to 5 lbs. Still a couple pounds heavier than the aluminum platforms, but still light enough to be very mobile.

I thought about remounting, but then you lose the camming ability and the folding ability which not only makes it easier to pack, but in the upright position your lineman's belt can slide right passed it.

2 pounds heavier but about a hundred bucks cheaper. I could live with that.

Thanks for posting thos build. Just picked up one of these seats in the hopes of having a cheap platform for my first year saddle hunting. I thought about buying an aluminum post and tree brackets to drop some weight.

For 29 bucks that's awesome. You could probably use the seat pad for a pad for your knees against the tree.

THIS..... This is exactly what I keep thinking to myself every time I read a comment from someone saying that it is not worth it to modify these seats. Even if you go to the extent of purchasing a new tube and brackets from doublesteps and remaking the mounting method, it is still FAR cheaper than any other platform of similar configuration. Yes it is six pounds... but most of us never complained about the weight of the lightest hang on stands ( which is nearly double) before saddle hunting. I just picked up this seat today for $29 and will be doing these couple mods to it as well. I do not mind it being 6 lbs, as at the end of the day my setup is still far more mobile, lightweight, and has nothing to catch on brush now.

Just a note, you will likely be at or over $100 all said and done if you replace everything other than the seat itself.
