Hunting Knives

I love knives...I even ordered a survive knife in March of 2015. I am still waiting and will sell it the second I get it.

They're Killer Woodsman knifes. Process a deer one day, filet a trout the next, and a grouse after that. My buddy had an old version made by herters and it always impressed me. If i find a nice one, some day I'll own one! I'm in VT...only about 45 mins from the border and and my family is very french Canadian in heritage. .it just seems right!

Grohmann has a website. They even sell “seconds”. Mine is a “second.” I can’t find a flaw anywhere. They won’t sell a flawed blade. If there is a flaw, it’s the finish of the handle and they will list the flaw.

Or buy new.

I carry this because I made it. First complete knife I finished. It is made out of an old saw blade, and I didn't have pins for the handle, thus the tape.
Planning on remaking it out of legit steel once I get my shop set up here at the new place. IMG_20190719_230415.jpgIMG_20190719_230431.jpg

I'm not fimilar with these knives, they have an awesome look. And I see they are made in Michigan, bonus points!
Yeah they’re made in the U.P in Rapid River. They’re VERY good blades and they look fantastic. They used to make this short blade knife called the “Chub” and it was perfect for gutting deer. You knew exactly where the tip of your knife was. They discontinued it for some reason.

My EDC is a pocket monkey. (Airport Security) It’s kind of sad, really. However I did fix a soap dispenser with it

I love the look of older "traditional" fixed blades, but when it comes to carrying a hunting knife I use a havalon pirana. My wife has the Gerber equivalent of the havalon, and I like it even more. Nice to have a push button to lock and release the blade.

I got a piranta and this neck knife from an old dude in Alaska who makes them out of old leaf springs. It more just for fun and my wife likes it as her EDC.

I have been running a havalon piranta. It is great. I picked up a hydra which gives you the option of a saw and the piranta blade. I use the saw to cut bones and branches if needed, and the piranta blade for field dressing. That is a lightweight solution to two problems.

I know I’m late to the party on this thread but to add to the Havalon supporters. A cheaper version is to just buy a #8 scalpel handle for $8.00 and a box of 100 #60 autopsy blades for $20 off eBay. I have used this to save weight on backpacking elk and fly in caribou hunts.

Used Cutco hunting knife off eBay. Lost the first but found another one this summer. Under $30, great warranty even used.
I have the serrated one, thing cuts through anything. I split 'em right up to the chin when dressing.

No discussion of knives would be complete without mentioning the Havalon Piranta. Nice to be able to switch blades to a surgical sharp one at any time. Also love the Outdoor Edge Swingblade and never hunt without it.
EDC is the Benchmade Griptilian.
x2

Got sick of sharpening knives. Just bought a Piranta.
My EDC is a Spyderco Cricket SS. Love it.

I have the ol Buck 110 and Gerber Vital.
I want this Puukko knife from Wilderness Ironworks...
