First off, I owe everyone of you on this site a huge thank you! Living in NH I’ve never been exposed to a saddle in person. Without Saddle Hunter I would not of been hanging in a saddle. This was my first year using a saddle and I went 100% in. This site gives all of us access to learn and better our setups, I know since March my setup has changed about 5 times.
Anyway, the doe was my first deer ever out of a saddle. I used a aero hunter kestrel with a fixed Amsteel bridge and carbon rods as my climbing system and ring of steps. She slipped into about 14 yards behind me and I was easily able to rotate to get my shot. Blood trail was easy and short.
Next, my first ever archery buck. Using my trusty kestrel after changing all my ropes to the new sterling Oplux 8mm rope I sat 18 ft up in a small maple. I bleated a few times and after about 10 minutes I caught movement behind me as this guy was slipping in quick. He was coming in from my 6 o’clock walking towards my offside. Using a ROS i was slowly able to backtrack around the tree and get ready with the little centaur longbow. As the buck approached it was clear he wasn’t stopping and I took the only shot I had at 8 yards slightly quartering towards me. I hit forward but was still able to get into his lungs. I backed out and gave him about 4 hours as I wasn’t positive on the shot. I found him about 5 hours later and was finally able to tag my first archery buck!
First ever year getting two deer and I attribute a lot of that due to the saddle allowing me in trees otherwise inaccessible to my climber.
Again thank you guys for all being a part of this awesome community and thanks for listening!
