As someone that has been trying to enter the saddle hunting community for some time I think I realize that saddle hunting will never be what it could be. The main reason being that in today’s world if I want it I want it now. It’s sad to say but it’s crazy that I have to wait a month or more for basically a safety harness that anyone can buy instantly. If I want to buy a new tree stand I can have one today. With today’s lives like they are people can’t always plan ahead like they want. Especially when the price is close to a cheap car payment. With two young kids involved in sports that cost north of 5k a year it’s sadly easier to just buy Several $40 tree stands instead of dealing with the hassle of buying a saddle.

Previous Planning Prevents Piss Poor Performance. If patience waiting for hunting gear isn't your forte I'd guess that patience in a tree stand isn't either. You didnt list anything that you didnt voluntarily sign up for. Not sure how you can be mad about a situation you created. You might be right. Saddle hunting might not be for you. Just remember that anything worth having is worth working for... and sometime waiting for. Best of luck this year.

Fine w/ me!!

Manufacturers will catch up with demand at some point. It won’t always be the case that you have to wait a month or more to get a saddle. Fact is that saddle hunting wasn’t very popular until a year or so ago. It has exploded so much in such a short time that all the manufacturers put together cannot keep up with the demand. That’s pretty crazy when you think about it....

A few years ago, you would have had to been fighting over a used trophyline, instead of having all of the options you have available now. It also depends on your hunting style how much sense it makes.

Once again a forum member comes at me with a roundabout dig. I would say without a doubt that my patience and success in a hard hunted state like New Jersey is as good or better than yours. The problem with the saddle availability is a deterrent. You are prob still living with your dad and have no responsibilities. It’s very easy to generalize. When I was in your position I prob would of felt the same way. When you have kids and a wife and a mortgage and bills to complicate your life things change. When you grow up then you can give me advice on life. Best of luck this year.

I was/am a tree stand hunter but after losing my lease I realized that putting the 8-10 stands I currently have sitting in my garage on public land just wasnt feasible. I like the saddle idea due to its mobility. I'm not sure that the goal of saddle hunting is to become "mainstream", I look at it as another tool in my hunting belt. If you really want a saddle there are ways to get them without the wait and high cost. H2 is a good choice, there are currently a couple TL saddles for sale at a reasonable price on other sites. In other words, where theres a will theres a way.

I don’t think you will ever get a saddle on demand. Ever. I don’t see them on the shelf at Cabela’s, bass pro, Academy sports or anywhere else. They are constantly making new and improved saddles why keep old ones on the shelf?

You must realize how you sound. Also, not everyone is you. What does it mean when you say you've been trying to enter the saddle hunting community for some time? Who exactly has prevented you from entering? This all sounds like a lot of personal problems. I'm sorry to hear it.

Maybe you should not have started this discussion.

Sometimes we just have to wait on things we want or plan ahead in a time of instant satisfaction. You can go to H2 Saddles and order today and have it in 17 days. Once you try a saddle you would never go back to "several $40 stands". Sorry you;ve not had a good experience here. These guys are the most helpful bunch you could ask for to help you
I agree that this forum has an awesome group of helpful guys. And I have always gone out of my way to help others in real life and on the internet. Also I don’t hunt out of $40 stands. I hang and hunt out of lone wolf stands. There is a def frustration. Sorry for venting.

Interestingly, when I made the decision to join the saddle hunting world, I was on an extremely tight budget. So I took the initiative to make my own DIY, saddle and platform and cheap Primal Steps. Within 3 weeks I was practicing in the yard. I hunted out of a saddle successfully(killed 3) for less than the cost of a decent hang-on or climber. If I’d needed to be cheaper I would have bought cheap strap on 16’ connected sticks off Craigslist, they are always available used. I guess it just depends on your will to accomplish what you want to do. By the way, I still don’t own a commercial saddle and I’d consider myself a pretty darn successful hunter! It’s not that hard!!!!!!

Sadly sometimes we have to be a little patient, even in this world of instant gratification. Several 40 dollar tree stands, Or one saddle and plan ahead and order it in the summer when nothin is in season. I don’t personally know you or your life, but it’s 300-400 dollars for a set up depending if you want new or used, that’s a 1.10 a day for a year, your not buying a house here. It’s a piece of hunting equipment don’t let it stress you out
