Im thinking of buying the Helium sticks- I want the BEAST sticks but afraid I cant get them soon enough plus still have to paint (smell)- so Question- Why the mods I keep seeing ? Can someone explain

Because the factory steps are a little closer together than most of us need. Because eliminating one set of those steps reduces weight. Because switching to a rope mod is easier than the factory buckle, and quieter, and lighter. Because it's easy. :)

If you’re handy, get some api’s and make some “poor man’s beast sticks”. Hawks are
Nice too. I like my sticks though and weight is pretty close to beast sticks, close enough for $150 less...

Because everyone does. Hahaha. And if not, would this forum exist?

I’ve been holding off cutting my hawks. Trying to decide if I’m going to 1 stick it or not. If so, then cutting 1 down.

If not. I’ll take the extra 1.37846 pounds and get an extra foot or two with the same add ons step stuffs.

Don’t quote me in the weight. Ha.

Now then, get your equipment--your quiver and bow--and go out to the open country to hunt some wild game for me.

The main purposes of modding is to save weight and bulk. Shorter sticks are much easier to handle and with a foot loop you aren't sacrificing much height if any at all especially if you are decent at climbing. I am currently sitting 22 feet to my platform and I used 3 18" mini sticks I just built this week. Each have a 22" foot loop. Very packable and light. It mainly comes down to your ability to climb.

I have heliums and you cant beat em for the price. I like the double steps and their relatively light the way they came.

My sticks weigh 1lb 10oz as they are right now. I used:
API huntin sticks steps
API huntin sticks versa buttons
1/16 wall 6061 aluminum shafts
Dano's ultralight standoffs
Wild Edge rope for the foot loops
Cam straps without the cam buckle(buckleless method)

With sticks, if you want the lightest you gotta DIY. If I wanted to save a few more ounces I would replace the steps with Dano's steps. I could prolly get them down to 1.5 pounds with doublesteps which is crazy light. But these already feel super light and I'm pretty happy with them.

I have had beast sticks since the first run. I haven’t painted them. No need...

Well i bought the heliums... now... to mod or not to mod...lol

My modded helium's weigh in at 1.5 lbs. I put cam cleats on them and 1/4 Amsteel. Cut down to 21 inches. I only use 1 stick.

The one stick method looks like a lot of work.... im up in air about trying

Are you using multiple steps or still one sticking with the Muddy Pro? Or your 1/2” carbon rods?

That is a mini stick build I just did. A lot of the trees I'm hunting in and around bedding areas have tons of branches so 1 sticking isn't very efficient

The only thing (besides the price) of beat sticks are the 22" between steps. That's a sizable gap. I dont think I could pull it off.

Hey @Murph4028, you have some direction and pictures of how you put on your WE rope foot loops? I want to add them to beast sticks.

Actually, its the easiest method I have tried ( im an old fat guy, so that plays part in that opinion) and im pretty sure I have tried them all. Climb up, sit down, move the stick, climb up again. Its really no different than climbing several sticks, with the exception that with one stick, you sit and take a break in between. For me, its also the most versatile method. Trees with branches are no problem if you use your linemans as a second tether. You just rotate tethers around branches. I do this by using a biner at the tether connection instead of the girth hitch ( running the tag end through the eye). Just have to be careful of side loading the biner. Its also (again, my opinion) the safest method as you are always tethered. Less chances for any real falls so long as you keep your tether tight.
You're not really adding anything to your kit since you already carry a tether and a linemans. Your just reducing your weight and bulk by only carrying one stick.

All I do is make a 22" continuous loop that goes through the holes in the step and around the post. So take both tag ends and put them through a step hole on each side and run them around the back. Measure whatever distance you want for the size of the foot loop by measuring from the top of the bottom step to the bottom of the loop. Mark the rope. Do the lock splice and your done
