Introducing The Banana Hammock

This has been on my mind for a while. Quick testing shows it has potential. I run a minimalist RCH and this might replace the sitdrag in my system.

There’s no doubt it’s the lightest (2.7oz), most packable, most breathable, and most stylish saddle ever conceived. Lmao.

In all seriousness, can we coin it "The Banana Hammock"?

...cause it looks just like those banana/fruit hammocks you hang up in the kitchen;)

You can probably find something that is stronger but it still ain’t worth your life. I went from a factory made saddle back to sitdrag/rch partially because of the proven safety It provided. I must be getting old.

You bring up a good point.. Thinking back, I also felt safer in my RCH and it always sat better on my hips. I can't stand how I am always fighting to keep my saddle up on my waste.

I liked getting everything sat up and then just sliding my sit drag over me and then setting up. I think i'll try to make me a modified sit drag for my future hunting situation.

If you are running a RCH anyways, no reason why you couldn't make one out of ripstop nylon. Like a mini butt hammock.

Like this? Call it the butt sling. Better with accessory cord for the bridge just wanted to play with the webbing. Made with 400d pack cloth and weighs in at 4.5 oz with the buckle and webbing. Pretty comfortable, going to try using less material as it bunches up a bit.

Yeah, I never had the riding up issue with my sitdrag and like you love just slipping it over once set up.

Just don’t want to take away one of the basic principles of any of my hunting set ups.SIMPLICITY Extra stuff to put on or carry is simply not an option for me.Any thing that i build myself will be tested extensively at ground level and will be overbuilt for sure.

Well, this thing is giving my sitdrag a run. I was getting some thigh cutting on the bottom edge but found that I could simply spread the net out and it would take care of it. It worked great sitting and leaning.

I think I’m going to build some more. Time to find a good netting source.

That name though.. def looks light how is it in the tree?

I think a fleece saddle will come close on weight

I’m sure you’re right, Dave. Also, more comfortable and warmer which could be good or bad. I think the net is more durable and easier to keep clean. Not that fleece isn’t very tough...

It's a cool idea and I'm guess will work awesome.

saddle hunters just like to experiment I think. I cant ever seem to stop DIYing, guess it's in the blood

It’s a disease. I can’t tell ya how many things I have bought brand new and modified before ever using.

A good cheap netting source..... Dollar Tree Fish Net Stalkings! Bammmmmmm

I actually did this with a seat from an old climber, same thing. It was a big loop of the net. I ran samoson predator through the loop in two spots and then tied prussiks from the corners of the net to the predator. That let me adjust the hammock seat instead of having it bunch up under my butt. Then I took and tied a bridge. I hung from it for hours with a rock climbing harness. I'll see if I can find it when I get off work today.

I'm making one of these to keep in my pack to use on some of the ladder stands on the property I hunt. Be nice to have an easy way to hang from back side of the tree after the leaves come down or if I just need to lean for a while. Not much weight or space taken up in my pack.
