Why we're going to a membership

Other than having to use PayPal I have no problem at all! I cannot believe it has been free this long! I have learned more on here in the time I have been here than I have learned from all my magazine subscriptions I have paid ALOT more for over the years! Thanks for everything you do @redsquirrel and all the others that contribute!!!!!!!! It is worth $15 to be associated with this caliber of gentlemen!!!

So reach deep in your heart and pockets, and for just .041 cents a day you too can sponsor a saddle hunter. Take the time NOW and do what’s right, operators are standing by.....

Hahahaha

Myself, among other members, have in the past offered/discussed various ways to compensate Mr. squirrel for what he has built and continued to provide for us, for free. He has always took the high road and humbly declined any efforts. I am happy for Red that he has made this decision for himself and his family. Let face it, with this extreme growth, he could have turned this into a money grab. How many of us, if in Reds shoes, would not have jumped on the opportunity to make money from this site years ago? He has kept the same passion and drive to keep this place what it is and other than adding moderators has taken nothing in return for his efforts. I respect that. With growth comes change. Red deserves change for the better and I fully support that. If in the long run Red profits from this change, I say good for him, he deserves it.

Post of the year. Well said.

I'm sure this had been said before, but... Let's just add it up. Kite, predator ropes, ropemans, oplux/Kong, two Mike Isbell saddles, two sets of DIY sticks, Sitka, drive from FL to Nebraska to hunt for a month, etc, etc, etc.
I think I can manage 15 bucks. Especially to support the site that has brought me into saddle hunting

This is being taken into consideration and I'm running through some ideas now. I never said I was perfect the first time :)

Whatever you set up will be a bargain - I still remember having to use the few threads/category on AT so many years ago. Hard to contemplate what has transpired in those few short years.

I say as a show of appreciation to Red, as many of us as possible show up to his house with a dish to pass and throw him a surprise party that will last for days!!!!!!!!! That's right I said days. BYOBs (notice the plural on bottles)Everyone loves a surprise party hey Red. Let's do it. hahahahahahahaha

New guy here. I've honestly been active on this forum for roughly 2ish months (some of that just a lurker). I've always been the type of person to support anything that has helped me with info or services. Let's be honest here. The amount of info alone on this website can do wonders for you if you care any at all about hunting. I learned about milkweed (and had a member send me some). I learned about probably half a dozen ways to climb that I had not thought of before hand. Earlier Mr. Jcline (great guy) hooked me up with a knaider. People answered many questions I had about the treehopper and even more questions I never had to ask because you can just search for topics and find info without making a post. The point I'm trying to get to is knowledge is priceless. You can get a crazy amount of information this site and all the site's admins is asking for is 15$. You've probably spent that at taco bell this year and probably gotten a side of diarrhea with that.

Secondly, I think adding classifieds to this membership is a great idea. While this may lower the amount of buyers on classified, it will also deter some scammers. For me personally, I am happy about this because I'm planning on selling some juicy stuff early November and while I have yet to meet anyone that wasn't a good person on this site. decent sized money transactions make me a little nervous.

I'm a new member...just approved today, and I was on the fence about the whole membership thing, but based on the responses here, you guys seem like a family of hunters who like to help like minded people and that's all it takes for me to be a supporter whether I ever buy or sell a thing. I appreciate all the work that's put in to helping a guy like me from SC learn about saddle hunting! Now to find that unicorn of a kestrel flex in a size 2

I wish that I could sign up for the membership now! There is no telling how many folks this site has helped and kept safe!-Now my wallet is definitely not safe here

Personally, I don’t think this is going to workout. I think less people are going to pay just for the classified section than is realized. I don’t think a fee will keep scammers away either. Is there some kind of protection being offered for deals gone bad? What does the $15 get you that free classifieds on other forum sites or facebook does not?

You would be better off charging a smaller fee for access to the site altogether.

I just joined here like 2 or 3 weeks ago and I’ve already learned a ton and used the classifieds. I’m paying, $15 is peanuts for the informational value here.

Party on, Wayne.

I've bought and sold a lot of stuff on here with narry a wrinkle or inconvenience. $200 spurs, $200 saddles, $300 sticks, almost $500 worth of treestands...lots of stuff.

I am MUCH more comfortable horse trading here than on the Facebook forums. Those, and craigslist have really gone downhill in recent years.

But I agree that not as many people that say they'll pay or should pay or could pay will actually pay. Same with the store.

Welp, I'm convinced and I'm the guy that was totally opposed to the paid membership idea. But, I think Red hit the nail on the head with this optional membership/donations button idea. I recently sold some gear and was blown away with how quickly it sold (under a half hour of posting). With all that I have learned from this site and its members as well has the membership being totally optional and how quickly and easy it was for me to sell my gear, happy to support this site.

Another way to pay to this site is to offer your experience, ideas and thoughts.

Like i said before, Red can certainly correct me if I am wrong, this site was NOT created to sale things, that was just a nicety that happened along the way. If that becomes the primary reason for this site, I think that would drive most away faster than charging the few that want to sale and buy things. Frankly, I miss how we used to banter one another, goof off, share ideas and it was almost like a family site - yep some of us had some disagreements and stuff (I've been warned by moderators a few times) but in the end we were all here trying to grow something we love. A lot of what we now have available came from the early days of this site. 5 years ago it was extremely hard to even find a saddle much less all the innovation that has come since this site was created.

I still hate seeing grown men in diapers and crocs - yuk ;)
