What mapping software,Apps, and tools do you use!?

I am curious about what you guys are using out there for scouting, infield, hiking purposes?

I am currently using www.caltopo.com to print out maps, mark waypoints, and plan out drive hunts etc. on the computer. I know this is a common site a lot of people use and it is great because you can put different layer and objects to cater to your needs.

I have an app on my phone called US Topo Maps, there is a free version and a paid version(I think if was like $12) but I liked it so much that I bought it. You can mark waypoints, add layers and use a tracking feature so it will track where you travel throughout the day. I have found it invaluable with doing deer drives I can periodically check it and make sure I am where I need to be or be able to look at it and get an idea on the terrain ahead and adjust accordingly. The downside to it is you need to have signal to download maps of the area you are hunting. You can do this prior to going hunting in an area that does not have cell coverage but if you forget to(Like I have done) its pretty much useless hahaha.

So there is my 2 cents, now lets hear yours!

Google Earth on my Mac with multiple topo layers (really like CalTopo as well) and layers that show WMA/park boundaries as well as my personal places to hunt

OnX Hunt maps on my phone that show individual parcels with the landowner name

Garmin Basecamp to go along with my GPS

Between all those I can get pretty much all the info I need.

Google earth with multiple layers on my computer
Google earth with kml files to show boundaries on my iphone
Basecamp for my gps
Just started to integrate onxy hunt maps in this year.

Same here. There's another thread where I believe Red provided a link to topo layers for Google earth pro. I also load my GPS with GPSdepot maps as a base. It's dated info but provides a good guideline for public land boundaries.

I downloaded onx hunt, its intresting im not so sure on the $30 a year to view private owner info though. It definately has some benefits to it but i dunno if it $30 worth unless i start knocking on some doors and getting some new properties.

Yeah if your not really looking for property to hunt it's not worth it. It would be handy for hunting broken up public land tho I think.

Red where are those links to add private property boundaries to Google earth? Or better yet to my phone. I need something. I'm going look at property next week in Alabama. This will be very helpful.

No links. My state has PDF maps for our WMA boundaries. I load them into google earth, match up the roads and landmarks, and then trace the boundaries and save as a .kml file. Its a good amount of work but well worth it to be able to load it up on the phone when I'm in the field. I also do this with some maps for parks I have permits to hunt in.

You were right for some reason the last few characters did not hook up on the link. /.do Try the one above if it happens again copy the entire line and paste it in the address bar of your browser. I tested it in the preview mode and it seem to work OK. Sorry bout that. The maps have different layers you can filter in or out. Zoom in on the desired spot as much as you can then mark the point for download. Its gonna be a pretty big map due to the fact its on a USGS grid. It will help if you have the latest adobe reader by adobe.

Heres another one that is just web based that I use sometime. You can flip back and forth from sat to topo.

I like this one: https://mappingsupport.com

I prefer to use UTM with a physical map+compass and that free software will print out a topo map with the UTM grid on it.

If going canoeing, I spray the print out with Thompson's WaterSeal spray.

I use several:

1. Garmin base camp with GPS
2. ViewRanger - Has a lot of great features but I like that I can turn on a beacon (when I want to) and my wife and family will know where I am and how I got there
3. HuntStand - shows property lines, weather, SolunarTimes, poi's, scent cones with wind direction on map, etc.
4. Also have ScoutLook hunting - but primarily use HuntStand nowadays

For our team it is huntstand. Free, multiple uses and we can share info quickly. I especially like that I can see parcel info and property boundaries. The desktop allows multiple map types. Heck, it's free so check it out...

What do you mean by "your team"?

Sorry that may have been an odd way to say that. We have 4 guys that work on scouting, food plots, trail cams etc. We are all in the game together and this helps a lot with these apps. With 4 of us gathering data, we need one place to keep it all. Let me know if you would like to know anything else bud. Happy Hunting!
