"The official saddle hunting backpack thread"

I don’t like carrying a lot of gear with me, so I found that a molle frame suits my needs. I paired it with a Predator pack with a couple of haulers and I’m good to go. I drop the frame at the base of my tree and take up the predator pack and gear haulers.

I have always carried my bow in, but maybe next season I will try to carry my sticks with my bow strapped to my pack. Who carries their sticks vs their bow? Im always worried that i will see the thunderdonk when im walking in and wont have a chance to choot em with my bow strapped to my backpack. Pros and cons plz.

I would rather carry my bow. Less likely to get caught on something that could cause damage. Plus if you have the quiver on your bow, more likely to catch the arrows and lose them. Plus if walking in during daylight hours you never know what you will walk up on.

My thoughts exactly, but just thinking

And with sticks if that’s what I feel like using instead of the Steps.

My two climbing methods are 5 squirrel steps with knaider/swaider OR 4 cut LW steps with double swaider.

Steps are kept in a shoulder pouch in the pack and deployed in the walk in where I add any needed layers. ROS stay in the pouch or get moved to a saddle pouch if using the sticks.

Have a couple of exterior pouches on the way for some easy access to essentials.

Hahaha looks like my Garage work table, I have a Badlands superday pack, eberlestock x2, several tenzing packs, Slumberjack pack, every branch of military surplus ruck sack, insights bow pack, voodoo tactical pack, and the list goes on. But I stiiiill havent found...........what im looking for!

You guys running the pop up, how quiet is it? I’m running a fleece pack right now but like the way that cinches down between the frame and the pack. Quiet is definitely priority though.

What fleece pack do you have?.....I’m working on a fleece pack design I like quiet pack and they’re don’t seem to be many on the market.

There is still a large tote with some tactical sling bags not shown. Was trying to pimp a Moab 10 for hunting, but got distracted. Silent reaper is my favorite, but I’ve been using the bandit for a few hunts. Still undecided. Had the Superday, but sold it before it went in the woods. Just can’t stand a hip belt.

Is the X2 belt removable?

It’s a Rancho Safari Catquiver VII pack. Been a really solid pack.

My only knock is that it has a rainproof liner that I’m debating cutting out because it got extremely loud when temps hit below zero.

Edit: I also wish it had a little frame to it for stability in packing sticks.

A medium sized internal frame pack made of fleece is what I’m shooting for!

I’m totally for carrying my bow in and strapping the sticks. For reasons everyone has mentioned. Also the bow and everything on it is the most expensive thing I’m carrying in and the most delicate. I always like to watch where my cams and string are so I don’t snag them on a thorn I didn’t see.

The truth is though, I carry my bow and have a separate strap for the sticks and then sling them around the opposite shoulder. Kinda like being able to move them around a little depending on what I’m trying to walk or crawl through. They seem to hold closer to me and out fo the way of things around me this way too as opposed to just strapped to the pack sticking up any which way.

Currently using a cheap cabelas top load pack with a ammo pouch slung on the bottom to hold the bottom of my sticks and platform post and nite ize tie holding the top to a molle loop. Not ideal.

Santa is bringing me an eberlestock x2 for Christmas :)
