Traditional Kills

Great pics everyone! Here's a few of my trad deer kills - some while using saddle some not - I've also taken turkey and hogs with the trad bow...Pulling these pics together for this thread tells me I need to do better taking good pics of all my kills and keep them in a safe place - a lot of my kills were before the iCloud existed or I had access to it lol....

Love the looks of the Widow. I bought my first one 35 yrs ago. I shoot with a lot of guys with high tech stuff and cant shoot as well on a course but I guarantee they don't have as much fun as a bunch of trad guys on a course. The first kill w/a bow for me was at a family reunion @ about 11 yrs of age.. Made a perfect shot on a robin and it raced right thru the picnic area of folks. I was ecstatic but no one else saw the humor in it. I lost my bow for awhile.

The widow was a good one....Many kills with it - to bad I have a problem and can't stay with one bow but for so long lol - even though I prolly kept the widow longer than most of my bows...

This is so cool.

Just for curiosity sake, is there anything that a traditional bow beats a compound bow on? Other than being more challenging, which is good.

They are lighter, more simple, quicker to get off a shot. I can't think of any other functional benefits over a compound but those. Lots of other non-functional benefits.

One time, the little stub of a branch that I had my recurve hanging on broke and the bow fell 18 feet to the ground. I climbed down, carefully checked it and took a couple test draws.
3 hours later I killed a 4 year old 8 point.
If it was a compound, I would have had to take it to a shop or maybe the scrap yard.
Nothing to bend, break, or get out of adjustment because it got bumped around a little. And I can shoot it with fingers.
They look a lot prettier, too.

To add another story like @Allegheny Tom. This past year I was walking along a steep creek bank and slipped on a rock. My bow went flying, bounced off several rocks and went in the creek. It hit hard enough that the bow unstrung itself. I strung it back up and kept hunting. Other than several scratches and a pretty good ding, it's as good as new.

with enough practice you can shoot a trad bow horizontally, canted left or right, kneeling. sitting down, crouched, even laying on your belly, etc. Spot and stalk and or still hunting on the ground though is where trad bows have an advantage. Does take a lot more practice but its time well spent. Most of the people I hunt with shooting a trad bow is more of a life style too, we shoot all year.

I trad hunt during general gun too. Shot this pig still hunting through knee deep swamp in a dog hunt area during rifle season... :)

Hey now.....My kids might think I'm old but, @Allegheny Tom has a couple decades on me at least.
Yep, and this old fart will bowhunt until I can no longer draw my recurve. Then I will use a camera.
And BTW, it takes more coordination to shoot a stickbow effectively than rely on gadgets.
Clumsy my ass.

Out shoot a techy guy at a range and he has to go buy better gadgets. Out shoot a trad guy and everyone usually laughs and makes good fun and he knows he just didn't shoot well enough that day. No need to buy better gear, just practice more next week. I'll probably never shoot as good at distance as a wheel bow shooter but my Widow is more fun. I just think trad gear is more enjoyable.
