Broadhead test pack

For anybody interested in the less expensive grizzly heads....it took about 1.5 hrs to get this to shaving sharp. Hard to see but the blades at the ferrule end have a slight taper and you gotta remove slot of material. The dark is sharpie I never was able to hit with the stone. Personally I find sharpening things therapeutic so I didn't mind. But keep in mind your gonna spend a lot of time with these heads to get them hunt ready.

How many grains of weight did you remove?

I'm at work and didn't read the whole thread but if it wasn't said before, check out Lusk broadhead test on YouTube.

Sure thing!

I found the same to be true for the Magnus'. Almost 2 gr off.
The Eclipse have a "125" stamped on them, but my scale says they are 134 grains. My scale is not a top-end scale, but I did check it with known weights and it does weigh accurately.
The Eclipse are not factory sharpened in the very least. They barely even have a bevel, so conceivably, they might be close to 125 after sharpened. Better too heavy than too light. You can always remove weight by sharpening but you can't add weight.

Just an FYI, for the heads I contributed...they are NOT sharpened, so please don't assume that's the condition of the edges are appropriate to hunt with.

I see that your getting some broad heads in, are you sticking to one of each, or are you looking to receive multiples if you can? I can offer some zwickeys and magnus stingers (4 blade).

Is that the guy who ''durability tests'' by shooting into cinder blocks? I don't understand how that teaches anybody anything.....

Ashby lists arrow and broadhead integrity (strength) as the number 1 factor promoting penetration. If the broadhead breaks (as many do when they hit hard bone) its penetration is dramatically compromised. Torture tests on hard stuff (cinder blocks, etc) will quickly separate the well-built heads from the ones you don't want to shoot at big game.

The challenges to your arrow and broadhead are higher for those pursuing game bigger than whitetails, so the extreme testing seems particularly useful to folks after elk, big bears, moose, bison, and lots of the bigger African game. We just don't want people doing that with our traveling test pack.

Watching stuff break is entertaining for people but it doesn't make much sense to me. A bone isn't like a rock.... I've never big game hunted but a big hog has some big rib bones I can easily cut with loppers.... they also move which I'm sure plays a role in how a broadhead will react. Just not a good test IMO....

Assuming we're talking about an ''adult'' broadhead, I would venture to guess the weak point on all of them will be the tip and the tiny 8/32 threaded shank. Cutting edge can chip but you should be able to get it back with some elbow grease

Alright everyone! A BIG THANK YOU TO THE FOLKS THAT PROVIDED BROADHEADS! Ya'll made this possible. :D

The test pack is assembled and now ready for shipping out! :grinning:

Had a few interested parties when I first started this thread. Then, I crapped out and let this grow cold and I'm not sure who still wants to participate. If you'd still like to have the kit shipped to you, please PM me your address. You will be added to the official recipient list in the order I receive it. Please sign up after reading the rules below.

Rules:
1. DO NOT "torture test" any of the broadheads. Treat these broadheads like someone else's property (because they are).
2. You have 5 days to test from the time of receipt. Please ship to the next participant on the sixth day.
3. By putting your name in the hat as a recipient:
a. You agree to allow me to provide your address to the party that will be shipping the kit to you.
b. You are taking responsibility for covering shipping costs associated with getting the kit to the next participant. For reference, the kit weighs 1/2lb.

Can you post a photo of the full set, with a list of what's what? That will help us when looking them over, and help us make sure that we received the complete set.
