I found a dead head that was half rotten. So I didn’t skin it out before boiling it. I’ve gotten most of the stuff off of it but there but there is still a bunch of gunk on the back of the skull that won’t come off even with brushing it with a wire brush. Any tips?

The first time. Oxi clean and water. The second tome the same and added some dawn. I did it twice because there was a big portion that didn’t get boiled because of the way it sat in the pot. So this tome I used some wood to make sure the back of the skull stayed in the water.

Check out Whitebone Creations channel for help on euro mounts. Pretty bad ass.

I simmer clean w/soda ash in water. Buy it from taxidermy suppy, Pressure wash, Apply 40 volume hair bleach brushed on from a hair salon. Quart bottle of it lasts for many skulls. Set in sun after rinsed of. Sun will make it snow white on a fresh skull. A dried up find like yours will have some dark spots left on it.

I have someone that is going to dip it, so I am not too worried about getting it white. Getting everything off is what is giving me a fit right now. It just doesn't want to budge. My power washer is crap and is either clogged or ready for the garbage. But I may see if I can borrow one. How strong is too strong?

Just keep boiling, it will come off trust me! Presoaking dead heads for a few days before boiling has always made the task easier for me. Since you're past that point just keep it at a low simmer with dish soap for a few hours continuing to top the pot off with water as it evaporates. Then I use an air compressor to blow all the small hard to reach areas, being careful around all the sensitive areas.

Be careful about over boiling a skull.
It will literally fall apart. The teeth are 1st to go, and then the nose bones are next.
Boil just long enough to get the meat off the more fragile bones.
The stubborn meat on the back of the skull is made for a power washer.
And, if after power washing you realize you didn't boil it enough, you can always do a 2nd short boil in clean water and boric acid or washing soda and Dawn.

If it was a dead head and the meat was already dried on the best luck I have had with that last little bit of meat on the back of the skull is to take an old pocket knife and literally carve and pick off the dried meat. Takes a few minutes but, sometimes that last little bit just won't come off any other way.
