Are they difficult to hunt? Do you hunt them like whitetails or elk? Are they a saddle friendly species????Not Whitetail but deer are hunted 365 in Hawaii. Shot this buck and several does in February.

So do you cut out the babies and eat them too? Only half kidding because they are only a few weeks away from dropping here. Seems very late to allow hunting for that reason alone. We’re over populated. Can shoot does until the end of March

Not blaming you either way, your post just sparked the thought. I'm sure that meat would be the most tender ever. And if I do?

Gotta love maui county..... me and my wife are getting ready to go back molokai soon for her birthday to visit friends and to refill our freezerNo, but Maui County! I wish. Just can’t justify the flight for a two day blacktail archery season.

On Kauai, some units that have blacktail are year round for archery only as well as units that can use dogs and rifle year round.... only thing is most of those units that hold majority of the deer are deep in the thickest unforgiving backcountry where glassing is out of the question and scouting sign is a rough job in the bush. most trips back to those units are 3 day trips so not many people are going back there... single day hunts are the norm in the easy to access places but those units have seasons and alot of pressure and poaching not to mention the deer numbers are not that great... maybe like 10 years ago we had some wildfires that burned some of the lower units and a few years after that there was good deer numbers down lower but since then those areas have been pressured out by hunters pushing the deer back into more remote areas...
You could easily make a week trip but without proper scouting or a guide to put you in the best deer zone you would be better off hunting pig and goat.
On the bright side, one of my friends who works for forest service said that the herds are splitting and moving into new areas so we might be seeing more range in the next 10 years. In 2016 Deer were spotted for the first time in the center of the island up kawaikini so they are moving... who knows in 20-30years we might see deer in the upper reaches of kalaheo, lihue/koloa, and halelea forest reserves.
