Seems there’s a mix .... some wear their saddle in, and some pack it in and put it on at the tree. I’ve done both, and am not dogmatic about either choice. What I have decided though is, if it’s a long walk, where I can’t bike, I don’t like a saddle on my hips.

I added a set of Perry Y suspenders to my saddle today. I feel like such a fool for not doing it sooner. It’s the perfect mix between packing and wearing. The straps are elastic and wide, so they’re uber-comfortable to wear. I think they should be an add-on option for every saddle on the market. That’s how I feel about it.

It was and is the only way I can keep my ol' Trophyline on my body. The originals lost their elasticity so I bought a pair at Lowe's and wala. Thought about using them on my Kestrel

Some people have said to use your lineman's belt as suspenders. What I do is take my rappel pull down carabiner, clip it to the middle back of my saddle, then run my LB across my chest, through the biner, back over my other shoulder into the LB loop.

Edit: I should add that if you do this, you should of course take caution any time you're dealing with rope near your neck area to avoid a strangulation hazard...

For me, suspenders are a must have. I have 2 commercial saddles and they both have Perry suspenders attached to them.

That said, I never, ever, ever, wear my saddle until I get to the tree. Too uncomfortable, I think schlepping through the woods can accelerate wear, I sweat like crazy and I don’t want saddle swamp arse or wet suspenders.

I have not figured a way to keep sit drag or fleece from falling down when I readjust. They do not have suspenders. I have been thinking about trying to sew some magnets in them and my RCH or suspenders (like hunting mittens) just to keep them in place when I adjust.

I wear suspenders all the time. Duluth trading company makes a fine pair. I put them on my saddle whenever I'm using it. Huge difference.

I put a pair of the first lite suspenders on my new merlin.. perfect fit. Almost like the tabs on the saddle were made with the first lites in mind.

I hike my Flex up higher, maybe bottom of my rib cage or so, and then put my amsteel bridge over my head and adjust it until its just snug enough to keep the saddle from sliding down but not so tight that the bridge puts too much pressure on my neck.

I feel like i can walk all day with it on like that. Its not on my hips at all and feels almost weightless really, even with a bunch of steps or bolts in my saddle bags.

Yeah, that works too and I’ve done that’s time or two. To be completely honest, I forget that option is there. The elastic suspenders are 2” wide though and are more comfortable.

Maybe ill give the suspenders a go. Always looking for ever better ways to get things dialed in just so.

Makes me feel like a wimp when i think of a pic my grandpa had from long long ago of him hunting deer in the UP of Michigan with a board strapped to his back with two leather straps to carry his crap in and his deer out!

This is what I’ve been doing. Belt comes off my left side and up behind my neck and over my right shoulder where I clip it on them cinch down my Ropeman. Works great.

I read somewhere that a belt cuts off circulation for those late season all day sits. I switched to suspenders on my pants and have noticed a difference in length of sits without cold feet. Just another plus of using suspenders.
