Attaching Climbing Sticks to Saddle

This is my first year saddle hunting and would like to know how everyone attaches their sticks to the saddle while climbing. I've been leaning toward using either molle j-hooks or grimlocs with paracord.

I tried karabiners but did not like trying to manipulate the gates with cold fingers. I’m now trying the j hook from EWO and like that much better. Make sure the cord loop is big enough to easily use for whatever system you choose.

Although I like the concept of the quick release grimloc, I think the j hook will keep the sticks closer to the saddle and make for a quieter climb.

I personally like the security of the D rings a bit better. I have the J hooks, and the work but the D rings won out for me. I have a few of the J hooks that I will send out to you if you are interested. Wont be till next week however as I am currently on leave back in MD taking care of my mother. But I do not need them

I would love to try out the j hooks. My only concern with the D rings is that they stick out away from the saddle. Have you had any issues with D rings getting in the way since they do stick out?

Nah. I re clip once my sticks paracord is out and they haven’t gotten snagged yet. Not gonna say it can’t happen, but not an issue that would worry me. Not sure if your saddle, but I personally know that tethrd saddles create a bit of an issue using D rings with the flat molle they use. It will work but takes some work. I have gotten them on my old Mantis and Phantom, as well as my newer ESS
, but it is a PITA.

I have a Trophyline Ambush Pro. The top row of webbing is 1.75" and lower is 1.25" webbing. Does anyone know if they make D-Rings that fit 1.25" and 1.75" webbing? Or any attachments for the sticks and platform?

I know I'm late to respond to this, but here goes. Before I was saddle hunting, I was doing a lot of hang and hunts with my Millennium M7. I attached paracord loops to my safety harness to carry my lone wolf sticks to my hips as I climbed. Never really had a hard time with it, but thought there should/might be a better way to climb. After tinkering around and then starting saddle hunting this year, I resorted back to the paracord loops. They are cheap, easily replaceable, quiet and effective. I'm sure everyone else loves the gadgets that make attaching/detaching their sticks easier for them, but I can't justify paying/using anything other than paracord at this time. Just my .02...

I got some of those rubber twist tie things and slipped them through the molle loops and just twist my **** on. I usually twist the platform to my back, a set of steps to my right, but I've toyed with strapping the step to the platform and carrying the whole thing to my right.

I use 1/4 elastic cord. Make it into loops, run through molle webbing loops. Works awesome for hanging stuff off of saddle. The stretch is the key for me. You can buy it at hobby lobby in spools, among other places.

Those clips from DanO and a 6" continuous 7/64 Amsteel loop works perfectly every time.

When using my RC harness, I would just put the top step through a gear loop. Also worked perfectly.

new saddle hunter here (actually, new hunter). I am running a cruzr xc. I have 3 30 inch hawk heliums. I have been putting them thru my bridge loops on the way up.

Is that dangerous? I am thinking the 1/4 paracord loop attached to my molle loop via s biners would work just as well. I was putting them thru the bridge loops since it was one less thing to worry about.

tia!

Through your bridge to carry them up? I don't know if it's "dangerous" as long as you have your lineman's belt attached, but I think there are better ways to carry your sticks up.

As far as attachments for molle webbing, check out genesis3dprintingllc on instagram or google him - he's got a bunch of equipment that he makes/field tests that get highly rated.

Here is a pic --and yes -- I use the linemans going up -- too old not to :)

on a cruzr -- there are 2 loops -- one for the linemans -- one for the bridge. I agree with you VFL, there has to be a better way. Thinking about the clips and paracord -- if the sticks dig into that and damage that -- I don't care. If they damage the bridge loop -- I do care.

thx for looking at this!

Jerry

Ah! I see - personally, I tied paracord to the molle on my saddle for my sticks and don’t have a problem. If you you around with it and practice with it, you’ll get used to it.
