Hickory Creek Koolaid

This was just posted on FB. Someone asked what was updated, Jerry responded "Take a close look at the tubing, it is corrugated, stronger and lighter. It also has a pull spring in the front trigger, instead of a push, compression spring that had some friction, this was upgrade from the later part of last year.". I don't have a mini yet. Are these older updates (like updates from the end of last year or some time earlier this year)?

Mine has the corrugated frame, ill chcknthe trigger spring. I got it used here at the beginning of the summer. My father bought one 2 months earlier brand new and it doesn't have the corrugated tubing. Mine did have the new scope mount, but not rhe add on stabilizer bar for it you see in this photo. The mount was a noodle, I replaced it with on if the original ones I got from jerry.

The cantilever scope mount looks more susceptible to being knock out of alignment. Here is my old mini with the rectangular mount..

Here in Michigan all bows or firearms need to be cased for transport in a vehicle (less CPL exceptions). A search of the this thread turned up @bj139's approach. What are some of the rest of you HC Koolaid drinkers using for a transport case? My daughter has asked for a case for hers for Christmas this year.

I'm running this for a case

So if the mini is so great, why do I keep seeing them pop up in the classifieds?

Great stuff appears in the classifieds every day. We can only speculate why someone chooses to sell their gear.

Reasonable question. Lots of reasons I suppose. Most you can kinda guess just thinking it through.

Perhaps a better thing to look for is how many people who have actively extolled the HCs virtues have put theirs up for sale? This guy, for one, sees no reason to do so. It was a great partner in 2020 and I expect that to continue in 21. I feel zero urge to consider any alternative. Can't say that about many other aspects of my hunting kit.

Have you ever spent any time on Archery Talk? Those guys talk about their new Mathews compound like it’s the lovechild of Excalibur and Thor’s hammer. 3 months later it is listed in the classified ads and same guys are talking about their pre-order for the new model. So, I imagine some of that mentality crosses over to the mini as well.

For me, I had the original HC Vertical In-line for about 10 years and I never took it hunting. I had 30 years of compound bow hunting embedded in my core. I sold the big one and bought a mini. I committed to actually hunting with the mini and fell in love. I really don’t see going back, but I’m keeping my compound as a back up.

The mini isn’t perfect and maybe that’s why people sell. I know it could be a lot cleaner with tighter tolerances. How much would that add to Jerry’s cost? Would people pay the difference? I don’t have those answers.

I love mine, but if Jerry came out with a more refined version that retained the same DNA, I would definitely be interested.

I put the quiver bracket in the post above on with a kwikee quiver and it seems like it should work well.
Are the arrows all up in your face? I have a quiver from another crossbow made by bohning that is offset a bit and most methods either put it in path of my head or hand. Just curious.

No, I could shoot with it on. But I take it off my nice I’m in the tree.

We could come up with a bracket that would all around work better than the one I got though. It works just good enough that I can cock it with the quiver on.

Aww, and you took her sledding too. What a great Papa Squirrel...
I thought the deer were supposed to pull the sleigh? And where's your sack of toys?
If I ever get around to it (haha) of posting a video.. you should see it. The drag was pretty much downhill after I hit the trail. I got her on the trail and gave her a push and off she went! Best. Drag. Ever!
