Looking to get started reloading. Have had trouble finding gear in stock. Found a Dillon Precision XL 750 progressive press with the die plates I need for 5.56/.223.

How do you all feel about this press?

Heck of a press to get started on, the good stuff :D

If starting out on a progressive, I would recommend using it as a single stage for a while till the loading process gets dialed in. After getting the loading process ironed out then move into using it as a progressive. I've seen inexperienced reloaders at the range more concerned about cranking out rounds than learning the process resulting in a lot wasted time and money.

I just bought one. I have a 550B I will be selling shortly because I only have room for one. Holler if interested, I dont think we are too far from each other.

Well dang ... I just ordered the XL 750 and some accessories.

Any idea on where to find primers, casings and bullets?

Haha, primers are impossible to find, cases and bullets are just nearly impossible.

You will learn to hoard like the rest of us real soon, I think I have been through 6 or 8 of these ammo runs.

My advice would be set up an alert on ammoseek.com for components. Stop in every little local mom and pop gun store and see if you can find any. All my brass is just years and years of saving what I've shot and range pickups. A wet tumbler with stainless steel pins will make the nastiest brass look like new.

Yeah, I’m reading up on those too, along with case prep tools

I can see that I’ll need a dedicated workbench just for this stuff

Yep. The Inline Fabrication Quick Change plate comes in handy to keep work bench space optimized. With the QC plates you can quickly swap out a press for a vise, a different press, etc.

Someday, I don’t know when.... but this dust will settle, and when it does hopefully you have a good grasp of what components you need and use the most, brass, bullets etc., pounce... order in bulk, pay one hazmat shipping charge and stockpile your most needed items then when this happens again it’s no big deal, I honestly feel sorry for those just getting into the hobby it’s great, things will get better soon, don’t overpay for this stuff it’s not worth just be patient.

Once people sufficiently drain their bank accounts the buying frenzy will slow down. By this time next year things will likely be calming down and definitely by the following year you'll start seeing sales on reloading stuff

Yeah, I had the Mount kit in my basket, but then thought I should wait and see how I actually want to set things up first.

I’m thinking I’ll go buy another rolling toolbox with a wood top, and mount it that way, but not 100% certain yet. Once I get everything delivered, and have all of the accessories I need, I’ll probably decide then on what I actually need to get for storage/setup.

In the meantime this will give me plenty of time to read through the Lyman book, so I’ll at least have some information to start building experience with when everything arrives.

Question-
I’m looking at the following accessories:

- Frankford Arsenal Platinum Series Case Prep Center

- Frankford Arsenal Platinum Series Tumbler

Any issues with either of those?

I have that tumbler and it works great! You will also need the wet/dry media separator and the big magnet to work with the stainless steel media. You can dry them in a low heat oven or food dehydrator or buy the dedicated case dryer.

Thanks. I was wondering about whether or not I would need the tumbler too. One of the pic's shows that it has a strainer for separating media, so I wasn't sure. Seems like Optics Planet has the lowest prices on the Frankford Arsenal gear, plus 10% of veterans/first responders.
