... But why is the button on the inside?

Looks like a button to attach the loop end of the flat strap to around and tree then there is some kinda cleat on the front of the stick

Targeting the new hoard of 1 stickers. Looks interesting.

There is a video on the OOAL facebook page. It looks like the strap is held on to the button on the back of the stick and then wraps around the stick and tree and then is attached to some sort of new cam cleat type of thing.

Matt responded to a question on fb live this morning, the strap cleat is from a sailing application. He said its made of nylon.

Looks pretty slick. Im definitely tired of the slack in my daisychains.

Yes, sailing cleat, but I’ve never seen webbing run through them. Interesting.

Plastic?.... not sure how I feel about that.
Good plastic is made well, and last a long time. Problem is so much of it these days is made cheaply or incorrectly that it breaks after enough exposure to the elements. Which one is it, and do you want to trust it to hang off the side of a tree in the dark in the middle of no where..... How bad do you want to save those ounces walking in.

He said in the video it had a 1,500 pound weight rating. I couldn't find the weight rating on the clam cleat website. I think most of the regular cam cleats we use are nylon too? Matt also said that a guy tested it and couldn't get a full bury amsteel rope to work with it, not sure what diameter it was, he didn't say. I looked on the clam cleat website and it appears that the model he is using is made to be used with 2-5 mm ropes.

Already bought a shikar, and then a scout. Looks awesome, but too late to get any more of my dollars... Unless they want to start some kind of trade in program.
I just put together a one-stick off of the Shikar Mini and Scout platform. Matt did say they would be selling the “Monarch” platform separate for something like $99. Looks pretty interesting and it would also be available for Heliums and 1” tubes in the near future as well.

Some cool looking stuff for sure.

So I just bought 2 17” shikars and a scout to make a one stick. Ok fine. I sure hope he makes the flat part available to retro fit older shikars. I’d imagine he will. I’ve had this exact one stick in my head bought 80% of what I want to make it and he does this. Lol. Story of my life.

Edit. Just read about the monarch. But still, ugh. I thought HD(Harley Davidson) stood for hundred dollars. I’m spending money like I have a money tree in the back yard.

Looks slick .
Ditto on buying FXD 17" and scout .
I was going to build similar flat step with aluminum plate.
There are going to be too many new top step options by next year.

I was considering for long sits to get a predator xl and cut a piece of plywood to wedge between the platform gaps and angle the piece against the tree. Sort of wedge it in on an angle. Use skateboard tape on it. Then I’d have a big platform but still have that angle for leaning. I found with the angled scout I’m more of a leaner. But I’d like a bigger platform for long sits to stand sometimes.

I like this idea! Might have to try making something up myself. Share what you try.

I’ll be interested to hear the results. I was looking into v-cleats as an alternative to mechanical cam cleats, but the shortest rated ones won‘t mount transverse a 1.25” climbing stick. I never thought of a vertical application. Honestly, I’m not loving the idea of cleating vertically, but it must work good if OOAL is going this direction. They definitely come up with nifty ideas.
