Sewing Machine Deals for the DIY Guys

My wife has never sewed but told me she wants to get a sewing machine for a couple of small projects. She was looking at new $50 machines on Amazon but, I convinced her to let me find an older/more robust machine. So what can you guys tell me about this machine? Would it so a few pieces of webbing together if I ever got the urge?

Or this one
They both look to be Singer 15s where the tension dial is on the end plate and not the front. The belted one may be a 15-90. I can't tell if the other one has a belt. It may be a 15-91 with a gear driven motor. I would get that one since it clearly has reverse and is cheaper. They will both sew webbing fine. Try to get reverse.

Anyone know anything about this Singer? Pretty sure it is an industrial machine. Seller can’t find the serial or model number, therefore I don’t know a thing about it or what it’s capabilities are? If anyone has any insight I would appreciate a quick response so if it’s any good I can grab it before it’s gone.

It is a domestic machine not an industrial. It might be a Singer 501. A picture of the front would be helpful. The model number should be on the box of accessories.
Edit: I doesn't seem to be a 501 because of the cover but the 501 is slanted like that. It might be 401 or 301 series.

Singer 401. It looks like it might be this

It looks a lot like a Singer 327K, but I'm not expert on domestic machines (it isn't industrial). It is an all metal machine capable of zigzag stitching.

Thanks! Just the info I was looking for.

You were real close. It’s a 328K. Thanks for taking the time to help me out. It’s a so, so machine. Probably can do better. But you helped me with a starting number and while using that I ran across this website that was very useful in ID’ing the machine. Has photo’s of about every one of them out there. Also a shoutout to @bj139 for the assist as well.

Mine should arrive today.

Nice. Mine shipped a few days ago but no updates on tracking since it left the first location. Looking forward to hearing your thoughts.

Came home with this last night. It's a little dirty but seems to run fine, although I haven't sewed with it yet. My 11 yr old likes to take things apart to see how they work, so him and I will probably tear it down to clean it up and oil everything. The guy I bought it off of said it was his mothers, who inherited it from her mother, who bought it new. They were both part time seamstresses and he said this was their baby so it was apparently taken care of. Not sure how much I will use it but, I'm positive it is a much better machine than the $49.99 machines my wife was looking at on Amazon.

I have the unbranded version. I keep it set to 250 for the start speed, and then 500-700 for the upper limit. It took me a week or so to figure out that I could change the start speed.... Probably should have spent more time with the instruction sheet.....

Do you have a link to the servo you’re running. I’m trying to decide if I want to team out the collet or just return it and get a regular servo.

Not this exact one, but close to it. The controller looks identical and motor power is the same, but mine has a slightly different adjustment for the angle of the motor.

Thanks. I found one like that with a positioner and ordered it. I just don’t want to mess with the collet and not be able to return it.

You don’t happen to know if that integrated servo would fit a singer 20u33 do you? I’m about ready to make an offer on one that includes a servo but the guy said he’d knock a good bit off without the servo. It’s been listed for quite a while so I might make him a fairly low offer without the servo.

It does not. The shaft diameter on the 20U is to small. I checked my Singer immediately after confirming the integrated servo wouldn't work on my Juki. I wonder if it would fit a Juki 8700 or similar...

Thanks. I’m really trying to find a decent industrial zigzag machine. Definitely hard to come by around here.

I can't believe it's still available. Are you getting tempted? ;)

Surprisingly no and it’s just 30 minutes down the road. I just added the 20u today and the wife would certainly kill me if I added another machine. Lol. Had to order another servo. Have two machines now waiting on servos.

Can anyone make anything out of this picture? It’s the in-laws. They’re about to get rid of it. Didn’t know if it could sew webbing?
