Treehopper ROS is amazing!

they dont come with a strap, im using the OCB strap from doublesteps

Tree Hopper has an OCB that is heavily built. It isn't on their website though (have to call). They need to update their website.

What material are the steps made of?
They are a type of plastic but I don't know the specifics of it. I do know that they are extremely strong. Mark did a breaking test with a 1,000 pound scale. The scale bottomed-out before the steps broke, so the break strength is over 1,000 pounds. For comparison, the (discontinued) Ameristeps broke somewhere around 400 pounds.

I have the same ocb from mark.
Its so awesome.
The extended handle is really the ticket to get tight. I also love how the strap is light colored and really blends in with the tree.
i believe this ocb buckle and strsp is actually made or rated for ros use.
I do have the other brand out there to but i just cant seem to get tight enough with that small buckle. Works great for tie down strap though

There's some sort of fiber in the plastic I think.

He only measured straight down pull and not side pressure (phone call), and side pressure comes into play especially when using as a ROS.

I hope with his next round of tests that he pulls from the side also.

Thanks for the heads up! Just called and asked him to add a few of those to my last order.

My perfect set up is both a platform for comfort with three steps for mobility.
Those steps look sweet.

I use a daisy chain for attaching my predator. Do you think I could use steps on my daisy chain rope and then cam down my predator and have the two steps hold tight?

Can't hurt to try, if you don't mind a 30 buck experiment.

I climb with Tree Hopper steps on amsteel daisy chains that I get tight with a trucker's hitch (not quite as tight as an OCB or a daisy chain after camming down a platform.....but tighter than a normal cam buckle).

The issue I foresee with your idea is that the step can rotate up and down on the thin amsteel. In comparison, a strap provides pressure over an inch and keeps them flat to the tree unless you REALLY try to pry them up. This isn't a big deal when just using them to climb. And it might not be an issue for you if you are mostly on the platform but only step over (carefully?) onto the steps momentarily to take a shot.

If you buy 2 tree hopper steps and it doesn't work out, then you are almost half way to a true ring of steps.

good point. I can’t imagine I would like a ROS more then my predator but the ROS guys are convincing that I should try it out

Tried this?

If you climb with sticks, then put your top stick at platform height and on the side you'd like to step over to.

Gotta be careful. Sticks are not designed for side pressure they will kick out. Not that they will go anywhere but still its an uneasy feeling when one does

I found it more than "an uneasy feeling". The "diaper" statments took on a whole new meaning that day!

I'm a spider monkey weirdo....hundreds of climbs with various sticks...never one kick out.

I think it's because I take 15 minutes or more just to climb (careful as heck because I fell 15 feet at 24 years old and almost kicked the can!).

So if using the stick with a platform or worried about kickout from side pressure, why not add a second strap near the bottom to help secure it? I use just the stock strap on my heliums and tie the knot around the button instead of using the spring buckles. Extra strap wouldn't use that much weight.

You could definitely do that on a stick. Guys are definitely doing this using the .5 as a platform.
even the Dquisto’s recommend a second strap fir platform use

Anybody try ros with the stealth steps on a single strap.
