Last weekend I broke the tip off my trusty old Buck knife trying to pry trim off a closet door frame. It’s been a long time since I bought a pocket knife so I was hoping to get some opinions on what’s good. Doesn’t need to be anything fancy, but I do prefer having a clip on it so it doesn’t sink to the bottom of my pocket.

buck has lifetime warranty on their knives. just send it to them and they will replace the blade , all you do is pay for shipping cost. check on their website for instructions. I've sent mine off and they even polished it as well.
I did not know that, I will have to check into that

Anything from Kershaw would fit your needs well. I like the leek or shallot. If you want to spend a bit more look at spyderco paramilitary 2 or para 3. Spydero knives use great steel and are well made. They are fragile to hard use like prying though.

I use a Benchmade Grizzly Creek for EDC but mine doesnt have the gut hook that the current one has. Its held up to 7-8 years of me using it for anything necessary. Its S30V so takes a LOT to dull it but it is harder to sharpen as well though. Benchmade will sharpen it free of charge for life if you wanted to go that route. I did send it in once a few years ago and it came back razor sharp again and they put a new clip on it too.

If you are going to pry with it, I would go with a stout blade shape and tool steel or another steel known to prioritize toughness over edge retention/hardness.

I don’t typically pry with it, I was just trying to create enough of a gap to get the pry bar behind the trim and not mar it up.

Will definitely check out kershaw and benchmade. I know benchmade is good, just have to decide if it’s worth the price to me.

I’ve always noticed when you have the elite operator cool tools some people are almost scared to use them and end up using a cheaper daily use model anyways and the high end one sits on the shelf.
I have a couple of SOG multitools I bought on sale. They were noticeably bulky and so I don't know where they are. I have a 1.5 inch Gerber folder clipped in my pocket and I never feel it but I know it's there if I need it.

I was issued a Benchmade out the front (OTF) automatic blade. It sits in the box. I have a leatherman I use daily and it gets punished. Hahaha.

I was gifted this Benchmade way back in ‘07 by my Team Leader in AFG. I’ve carried it everyday since, can’t remember the model number but last I checked they still make this knife. It’s small, thin, lightweight and once convinced a crackhead that trying to rob me at the gas pump was a bad idea. It needs to be sharpened because my youngest son decided he wanted to stab cardboard in the basement when dad wasn’t paying attention...
