This is my first year saddle hunting and I have an idea for carrying my gear in and put of the woods and was curious if anyone has done it , or something similar.

I do not want to use a back pack. I don't want the extra material. My plan is to buy molle backpack straps for the predator xl platform , and using gear ties to attach my 3 30" hawks directly to the platform.

If anyone has concerns or idea on how to go about this better I'm all ears.

Just wondering, do you have a plan for your tether rope, peanut butter & jelly sandwich, your jacket for when the sun sets, bow rope, gutting knife, deer piss, rattling horns, spare trail camera, limb saw, SD cards, grunt call, batteries, flash light???

Keep your eye out on the tethrd site in the near future for a pack for the predator xl. I saw it in person last weekend.

Lol I am new to saddle hunting , not hunting in general. I don't take a pack when I use my climber or hang on, and I don't plan to take one with the saddle.

I'm only concerned with how to get my sticks and platform in and out without a backpack frame.

I hear ya and with you on that, I’m the same way. I don’t hunt dark to dark, only half day at the most. Everything I need can fit in my pockets or a belt pouch. I had a Predator XL and LWCG minis fit like a glove and streamline. Not sure about the 30” Hawks, but I wouldn’t see an issue. If was to do again, I would look into the predator xl pack coming out and probably go that route, just to keep it more quiet.

It can be done. Much easier in the early season when temperatures are more reasonable, less clothing required, and shorter walks into the setup location. Very challenging to do in colder temperatures, where more clothing is needed, and a longer walk in starts the trek. I usually bring a pack in with me, in the early season it is mostly empty. Later it’s mostly full! Good luck this season!

I use some old lock on backpack straps connected straight to my sticks. My platform and camera arm strap straight to that. If I need to carry anything extra I use a Fanny pack.

I hunt hours at a time in remote locations, so I need stuff.

I find a medium sized backpack with enough internal and external pockets is right for me for simplicity because each pocket/area has its own stuff that always stays there. I can go right to it. "Need a flashlight? Well it just so happens I have a small pocket on my backpack with my main and backup light and even spare batteries. I can find it in the dark even."

This conversation always fascinates me. I take a backpack with me into the woods. Doesn't matter if I'm using a climber, ground popup blind, or this year saddle hunting. The backpack has always been the best option for keeping the items you use organized and off your body while hunting. I can hang my pack once I'm in the tree and I have access to everything I need.

I guess for me personally, going from a climber to a tree saddle, will shed so much weight, the backpack is isn't even part of the equation when it comes to nuisance.

Unless you go for a heavy external frame pack.

How many days per season do you hunt?

How many hours do you typically spend per day, away from your access point?

What is your average distance walked to and from your hunting sets?

Might also look at some American made custom packs for platforms and sticks. I’ve seen several people making them for reasonable prices.

Otherwise I wore a mission like a pack last season with four Novix minis and it worked great.

I’ll be running HPG straps and a predator pack for my ultralight set up this coming year. About as lightweight as I can go.

I hunt every Saturday and Sunday that the season has , every day after work until daylight savings , I do probably 4 or 5 all day sits a season. Most mornings are an hour before light to 10 or 11. And I'm back for 1 til dark. Average distance is 3/4 mile to a mile.

my guess is you’ll be pretty annoyed by not having a properly fitted frame pack for that kind of sustained effort. You may not know you’re annoyed by it if you’ve never had it. But it has been the difference between me burning out and continuing to hunt for me.

a properly fitted pack will weigh 4-8lbs. The weight will disappear because it’s fitted properly. It will feel, weight wise, the same at the minimal set up you’re attempting. But it will be more comfortable.

the one drawback is bulk in the tree. Two options: stash it on the ground on access along the way. Or get one that compresses neatly.(pop up does this well).
