bear prevention

If you read the section makes no mention of archery hunting. The section goes through all the legal stuff of what it takes to get permit what is takes to be refused and on and on. I have always been told permit overrules section a. As it is a legal right to carry for your protection with permit. Call a local warden to check and they can clarify for you for sure.
i also dont have a CC permit, because according to the law in MN you are allowed to carry your pistol in your car, in a case, and in that case you can have a magazine loaded, as long as it is not in the pistol, it isnt "loaded" according the MN laws. I have asked the police about this in particular. that seems sufficient enough to me for if i needed a firearm in my neck of the woods. TBH with doing that, i have no desire or need to continue to get a CC permit

Bear spray? I’d say just carry a pistol, sounds like a ccw is what you need.

I kind of yelled like a little kid after that. I drew bear tag this year, so no mercy this time. I wasn't carrying my handgun on the hunt, but it was the last time that I didn't.

I would carry spray, and I hope that you can get the good stuff in Minnesota. In Wisconsin, we can only buy the neutered lower strength.

see the first post, its illegal to carry and archery hunt in MN
So no to bear spray? Also it depends on what the highest importance to you. If you’re really worried about bears then bring a pistol. If you are a person who has had trouble with law before then don’t bring a pistol. Different bears but timely video.

Lordy……

Anyway, just had a lady on the NF in GA kill a sow in a campground. Sow had 2 cubs and the woman had 1 cub, an Autistic daughter with a service dog. The sow charged and the woman capped her big ol furry butt.

USFS LEO investigated and decided it was justified and sent her on her merry way

Mama bear picked the wrong mama. With they said, I certainly don’t blame the woman but I’m still of the belief that black bears are harmless to us in a deer hunting scenario.

In the spirit of the 4th of July coming up, snatch up some firecrackers or a kids’ cap gun.
Good idea but I shot a 13 yr old boar after he ran up to the bottom of my stand and went back down. No time to think about lighting firecrackers. I was too busy shaking. He got a Snuffer in the lungs for that stunt..

On the ground I’ve had to resort to kicking and throwing pine cones

From up a tree I’ve watched them trail me and other hunters like a blood hound to the tree ur in

A friend had to smack in one in the nose with his bow when it climbed up to investigate him 20ft up the tree

I hunt in black bear country. They're pretty timid overall...but I've heard that woof when heading out of the woods in the dark at its made my stomach drop.

In PA, a sidearm is allowed, but I always carry spray...I'm just not that good of a marksman with a pistol. Spray for me....biggest can I can have.

Had a run in with a mature boar black bear last year. I watched him tear apart an old stump and then roll around with it for 20 minutes at the base of my tree. It was pretty comical, he would throw it up, try to catch it, and swat it around like a ball. I filmed a little of it with my phone. Finally decided it was getting close to dark and I wanted him gone, so I yelled at him. He would look up and woofed at me while he stomped the ground, then went back to playing with the stump. I did this 3 or 4 times, each time he would stop what he was doing, woof at me, stomp the ground and stare at me. He finally just wandered off on his own about dark, of course in the direction I had to go to get back to camp.

I was telling a friend about it a few days later and he said he has had a couple run-ins where the bear didn't seem scared of him but when he banged his release on his stand, the metal noise sent them running. I told him problem for me is I hunt from a saddle, on plastic steps with a recurve, I don't think I could make a metal on metal noise if I tried.

In Michigan if you have your concealed carry permit your can carry during bow season. That said, you had better let the bear bite you before you use a firearm on it out of season. :tearsofjoy:

Honestly though, I've had a LOT of close encounters with bears, big boars, mommas, mommas with cubs you name it. I could fill a whole evening telling bear stories and I've never had one act aggressively toward me. They've bawled at me and tore trees down around my stands when I wasn't there but they always have backed off before I ever felt overly threatened (adrenaline rush notwithstanding).
My experience is the same with our apex predator (gators.) Generally the more unlikely something is to be a threat, the more weight we tend to assign it. Common sense is enough to protect you from 99.99% of alligator attacks in my experience. I'd guesstimate roughly the same for bears.

I've come to the conclusion that they always somehow head off in the direction I'm heading or need to go. :tearsofjoy:

Yep, Also, I should have elaborated, I've had several encounters with black bear over the years and that is the only one that I felt wasn't the least bit afraid of me. The rest of the time, they get out of there pretty quick the second they realize I'm a human.

Had a cub climb my tree a few years ago. Another cub up the tree next to me. Mama was at the bottom of my tree standing at me. She huffed a few times and they scurried down and off they went

My taxidermist loves me!!!

Its really a lot nicer in person. That picture didn’t do it any justice...
