2021 "Huck it, I'mma Sit on My Bucket" Contest

People buy empty buckets? I can't just use my hunting/ice fishing bucket already made up? Can I please say something other than, "I'm down to clown" to participate?
On a side note, one tip I'll offer for bucket chairs while hunting: Take the metal handle off immediately and toss it in the trash and replace with rope.

one neat trick

game changer

secret weapon

I would think the sound of a bucket being knocked around would just draw in the little fawns?

Yes. I miss the days when I worked construction and fast food and could get them for free. And I sometimes wonder how my stash disappeared.

Yes, just buy another one for an entrance fee and hunt on your favorite.

I suppose I can accept "it's clobberin' time," or, "it's time to get schwifty" as the sign-up notification.

I have @rhagenw, @Fl Canopy Stalker, @iamcorey, @Exhumis, @kyler1945, @Weldabeast, and @Nutterbuster are "ready to get schwifty." Any other takers?

Please read fully before posting!

I've really enjoyed the saddlehunter forum deer contest. But the fun was over way too soon for me last year. No bueno.

I've been as guilty as anybody of being "all gear, no ideer." This site is gear-forward and there ain't no changin that even if I wanted to. I like the gear. The more expensive the better.

But as premium gear becomes more the norm, and as advertising shifts towards content-heavy strategies (where businesses promote their products in articles titled "how to kill big deer by being mobile" or whatever), I don't want people to lose sight of the fact that you absolutely don't need gear to kill deer. Saddles and heavy arrows and $500 treestands don't kill deer. Hunters do. Hunting doesn't have to be a rich man's game and I hope it never is. If you've got money for gas and a license and a gun, you're in!

So, in addition to Nutterbuster's 3rd or 4th Annual Family Friendly Nutter Bustin' Rodeo, I wanna start the "Huck it, I'mma Sit on My Bucket" Contest.

Here's them there rules:

General Rules
  • All deer entered in the contest must be shot while sitting on a bucket.
  • All hunters must be paying members (support your local papa squirrel, chilluns) and have at least 200 posts.
  • All submissions must contain a picture of the hunter, the deer, and the bucket.
  • Each hunter may only submit 1 buck and 1 unantlered deer, or two unantlered deer. Hunters can upgrade 1 unantlered deer to a buck and upgrade their buck unlimited times.
  • Unantlered deer (except spotted fawns) are 5 points each.
  • Antlered deer are 5 points plus the number of tines. IE an 8 point buck would net 13 points.
  • Deer harvested in plain clothes (no camo) are worth double base points. IE, add 5 points to the above calculations. I'm encouraging folks to keep it simple. Just grab a bucket and a gun/bow and go kill a deer!
  • Deer harvested with a traditional or compound bow (anything that requires you to draw and hold in the presence of game) are worth triple base points. IE, add 10 points to the above-mentioned calculations. @kyler1945 convinced me to add this one because you bowhunters are really, really gonna have a rough time with this contest. :)
Bucket Rules
  • Regulation buckets can be between 1 and 10 gallons
  • Regulation buckets can be wood, plastic, metal, fiberglass, or carbon fiber
  • Your bucket can have a lid
  • Pails not allowed
  • Buckets must be purchased for less than $40 and be sourced from a local mom and pop hardware store. Proof of purchase must be provided upon request. For realzies. Times have been rough for small businesses lately. Even if you have a collection of them, buy a new bucket.
  • You may not use the bucket as a saddle platform. However, you can wear your saddle while you sit on your bucket. If your bucket is higher than 15", it is strongly encouraged that you tether off to a nearby tree and avoid slack in your tether in order to prevent shock load or injury in the event of a fall.
  • Buckets must be carried in-hand. No shoulder or backpack straps allowed. Other than that, bucket mods are allowed because I'm not dumb enough to think that's not going to instantly be the first thing your deviant little minds think of once you've had a moment to process this lunacy.
With all that being said, comment "i'm down to clown" if you want to be entered into the contest. I'll update this thread with the list of teams and members come late August so folks who start in September can get to whackin' and stackin'. PM me if you wanna volunteer as back-up help in the event this grows beyond what I can manage by my lonesome.

I'll start a separate thread for smack-talk and bucket talk. Lets try to contain this madness to there. I reckon it may be a fun little something to do or the guys who tag out early in the official contest.

Why 200 posts? I thought this contest was about bare bones hunting, not gear. As this has "become" a "gear-forward" site, a 200 post qualification seems to favor participation of gear junkies over those less interested in that sort of thing. A paying membership requirement I get, so as to not overwhelm and undermine the forum.

Also, other than supporting a mom and pop, I'd say the bucket requirement is contrary to your vision. It introduces gear that other hunters would and could do without. So it's still a gear forwards contest, even though the particular gear is an opportunity for some fun and games. Nevertheles, it excludes still hunters and trackers who might best prove your thesis.

But I get that the bucket is kinda your thing and the contest is really just a spot of nonsense and fun to be had.

Can't wait to see the harvest by a guy with a 5gal bucket and 5k xbow.

I’m DQ’d as I prefer plastic Milk Crates, carried like a sling with one of my over engineered ropes girth hitched through the handles .

I’m amazed at the willingness to spend thousands on gear, and the pearl clutching at stopping at the local hardware store for an extension cord and tossing in a bucket for good measure.

For shame

Cause this is a noble and charitable contest. Maybe all deer should be donated.

I'd be all in but for the post count, get back to some bucket hunting like i used to do with my grandpa. I don't feel like going around the forums making nonsense posts about things that don't particularly interest me adds any value to anyone.

It did however remind me that I never signed up for the paid membership so I went out and did that.
