Ok let’s lighten things up a bit now that we figured out how the world is gonna end.

sure, everyone likes to think they learned things from last year, practiced with their gear, scouted more, will have more free time, etc.

but the reality is, plans fall apart, and people get lazy or distracted or focused on other fun stuff.

So let’s hear it. We’re 30-60 days out from most seasons opening up. Are you going to be more successful this year deer hunting, or less. Define as you like and tell us why, if you’re so inclined.

I’ll start. I feel like I’ll be more successful this year bow hunting for deer. Last year I killed four deer, but no nice bucks. I would like to count a really big one I put a friend on, but he’s not on my wall. But the biggest thing that stood between me and big deer was time. I didn’t have time to make a Midwest trip. And I hunted a new property in a new state and found big ones but didn’t have time to hunt them.

I started a new job in may, and it has created a lot of flexibility in scheduling and most importantly, where my butt needs to be. I still travel a lot for work, but it’s nationwide now. And when I’m not traveling, I can be anywhere with an internet connection.

I currently have hunts planned in four states, and tentative on two others.

I have a feeling I’ll get a good one this year.

More. Simply due to available time. I only made it out a few times last year. It should be easier to get out more this year thanks to having a little more vacation built up. And I shouldn't be spending most of bow season rebuilding a deck and replacing our front door.

I am hoping I am more successful but you know how that goes. Last year I shot 3 deer with my bow, 2 by gun and a bear with my bow. One of them a decent 7 point that I had been targeting due to the extra tag and the other a 131" 10 pointer that is considered big here in Maine. I haven't been putting in ungodly hours of time due to having two kids now (my boy is only 6 months old) and I have been overall busy with life. The exception being, I have still made time to walk my old tried and true areas and get cams out. My spots are strictly Oct-Nov buck locations, the rest of the year they are not there, I would rather have these spots then the ones guys chase velvet ghost in from summer time pictures. On that note, I have a few bucks that are doing their typical 1-3 week cruise through to check their fall stomping grounds that are shooters. I know I can stack does this year to fill the freezer and have hunts ready for Maine (home state), New Hampshire and Ohio (gun season).

Here's to hoping I get my typical Sept-Oct trail cam blow up and start locking down on nice bucks.

Good luck to everyone this season, lay em down.

I made some rookie saddle mistakes last year. Got busted pretty easily few times with a bad set up. I hope I learned some from last year. Also one stick option means I can climb until I am at the right height. Not limited by the sticks.

I'll be able to hunt every single day this season from 11 am til sundown. And Im on vaca first and last week of October, second week of Nov and all of the first week of rifle. If I'm not successful on a big one I'm doing something wrong!

If them deers come through where I'm hangin and my 900000gr arrow pokes two holes in their sides after I punch the trigger while I got the ol EZV on em then yeah, I'm gonna have a more successful year.

So if you’re successful, then you’ll be successful? Sounds right.

More. Came down with the covid right before rifle opener last year and only got two days in. Finished empty handed. Definitely hoping to have more hunts this season, so law of averages and all.

More. I had some ruined opportunities last year that I've remedied for this year, I have more time to hunt this year, and I moved closer to public lands. My previous drive was at least 45 minutes to the nearest state land and an hour to my relatives land. Now I have state land 10-20 minutes away!

More.

I'm changing my mindset and my outlook. I dont think I have more actual hunting time but I'm 'maximizing' it.

Also thanks to this community, other have generously reach out to me and want to help. Which is giving me more confident than running things solo.

Hopefully more! I try to get better every season & learn something from the previous season. Also got a new job with more vacation so I think I'll be able to take time off of work to hunt for the first time, very excited about that.

In the process of possibly buying a project house though so that has me worried about how much time I'll be able to spend in the woods. Not great timing from that perspective but we'll see what happens.

I was pretty successful last year, and I’ve been doing some scouting and such so far this year... So I’d like to believe between previous years intel/experience and this year, that I should be more successful! To tell myself otherwise, will only hinder me…… if you say or think you can’t, you’ve already failed. So I won’t go down that road. I’m an AmeriCAN not an AmeriCANT! :tongueclosed:
