any interest in virtual "meet ups"? - I'd love to chat with some more experienced hunters

I'm wondering if there's any interest in a virtual get together, obviously not as ideal as in-person, but since we're spread all over the country that's not really possible, I'd be interested in a semiregular chat or zoom meeting, we could organize it as somewhat of a free-for-all, or have scheduled topics (like this month heavy FOC arrows, next month knot tying, etc) or a mix in between. Obviously defer to Admin/ Mods if that type of thing won't fly, but figured I'd throw it out there to see if there's any virtual bites. I'd be in for any version- text chat, voice/group phone call, or video/ zoom. evenings (after 8 EST) would work best for me, but we'll see what the group thinks if this works out.

I like this idea, following to see how this develops

Sounds interesting. Might be down for something. Doesn't have to be run by the moderators on here. You could set it up your self. Send out an invite to whom ever wishes to go. Maybe find some one willing to do the knot instruction.

Don’t know anything about compound stuff and am new to saddle stuff. I’d be game for listening in for some saddle advice. I have been shooting trad for years so that kinda get together might suit me a tad better.

I’m sure I’d partake depending on the topic. I’d like to learn or help others learn.

100% Great Idea. I’m in……I personally have held two meet ups in and around my area. Turn out i thought was great. Just last Saturday held one on Army post Ft Campbell. Even had the game warden show up. Following to see when.

Most of my fellow employees telework like myself and we have a weekly teams meeting called “lunch and learn”. Someone each week presents on something that interests them. It’s been really cool. It’s done trough Microsoft Teams and you can share your screen so I think that would really add to what you have going on here. You could break down YT videos or use pictures to help explain whatever the topic is.

Interested and will follow to see how this develops. As always it depends on meeting time, etc. for possible participation.

Think this is a great idea and would be in. We’ve done calls like this though Facebook messenger too.

I'm interested. Would prefer not through any type of FB though. I think Zoom would be ideal for screen sharing etc

Almost 20 yrs ago I had a party at my house for some guys obsessed with deer hunting to get together and talk tactics. These were NY and PA “friends” I had met on AT which was the only forum of bowhunting interest at that time. It had two guys instantly start snipping at each other on tactics. Another dude had all sorts of odd kill photos (like something wasn’t legit) and the coup de gras’ was the idea that two of the guys who lived close to one another, but didn’t know one another ended up in threats a year later after one supposedly blanketed the area of the other asking permission(based on his kills). Great intent felt awful in the end.

I would be all about a self serving and group providing tactic share with people at similar stage or caliber. Those who aren’t and want to be won’t understand the paces and things go sideways (as described above).

The T event I went to a couple weeks ago was the same. 75% of the gear there was brand spanking new with a feel of a dog playground loaded with fire hydrants. There were many folks there with no clue on how to use the gear or even hunt. While I can understand contextually why that is the ideal place to learn there is a reason why school, craft trades and professional skills move on steps/stages.

There’s likely a few that will think I’m being an a$$ but the intent is to be helpful and contribute to a good experience for all.

I could see people having they’re differences. Getting heated over tactics is lame though… and as far as an area people share, why on earth would anyone give intel on where they hunt is beyond me. I’ve got one close friend, we work together as a team and have for several years, so far we’ve managed to respect each other. If that ever fails, I’ll never do it again.

That's my concern as well, and why I purposefully proposed the idea without volunteering to lead it. It seems that the moderator team isn't coming close to this idea (likely because of the obvious chance of it being a headache)... I was also thinking one of our YouTubers could host a Livestream and we could all be in the chat. Not as direct face to face but easier to moderate potentially. I am not opposed to hosting a zoom hangout, just need to think through details of how we'd keep it civil without stepping on toes. Mainly I'm just looking for a way to take to some other hunters since hurricanes and covid are severely affecting ability to gather (and we are spread out over the country/globe).

Not abandoning this idea, but need to think on it some more. If anyone wants in, this doesn't have to be "my" thing, want to host a zoom? Go for it! I'll log in if I can!

@4090Sharps set up a virtual campfire on the discord app for this very thing. We were going to try to get some guys together to chat and occasionally have guest if it worked out well. The discord app is easy to use. You just download the app and make an account which is basically just your name and phone number I believe. If you guys are interested in using it we can send you invites to the chat room and you can use it anytime you want. We don’t have to be there. Maybe we should give it a trial run later this evening?

You’ll have to make an account but it’s not a ton of info like usual account making. I’ll jump on there around 9pm and talk with anyone that wants to chat. Once you create an account and follow that link you will have access to the chat and chat room anytime so you guys can use it when you want to
