I’ve been reading all the compound posts on this forum. Have to upgrade this and the bow companies better at this feature next year posts. Got to get this accessory or paper tune this group blah blah blah. It all seems so vain (Pun intended). Makes me glad to be a trad archer and live the simple life. Some archers can make any method complicated, but anyone else feel this way? I’m entering my second season with my current setup and before that I hunted several seasons with whatever bow caught my fancy from my collection. I have wanted new bows and new woods but never felt like I had to upgrade even from my first bear bow. And I was never under the disillusionment that new crap would make me shoot better. It really kind bums me out the way the way of life that is being an archer has been flooded with consumerism.
glad to be trad.

Ehhh. Compound bows are pretty simple to shoot and easy to tune. Traditional bows can be a pain to shoot and a pain to tune. Just the smallest thing can affect the flight of your arrows. I spent far more time getting great flight out of my trad bow then I ever did for a compound. I shoot both and I have had my fights and grumbles with each. I also enjoy both. No need for tribalism unless you just want it. There’s no need to be for trad life, just be against crossbow life. Just kidding! We are all saddle hunters here.. well mostly lol

It’s not so much about anti any kinda bow. More about the consumerism that seems to drive the compound and crossbow worlds and the lack of contentment. Trad bows are pretty simple to shoot and tune but it’s not really about that. People take 20 plus year old compound and 50 plus year old trad bows hunting every year and kill deer. I was just lamenting at the direction the hunting world is going. Though I did specifically say I was glad for the trad life. Mostly because I don’t think that kind of advertising and lack of contentment with gear affects the trad world as much. It’s not like the technology is making huge leaps lol. The reality is 8 years ago flagship bows are this years budget bows. The technology is very good. Just venting I guess. I guess I do though as you say feel a bit of tribalism for being trad. Oh well I’ll be quiet now.

I think I read you had the vid, sounds like you need to climb a tree and enjoy the fresh air before you have to go back to work lol! I saw you just got new saddle gear, can’t ever have enough practice with that stuff.

It’s all the circles you put yourself in. I was hardcore into the ilf super recurves. Every few months the latest and greatest limb was coming out. I spent way more time and money on trad bows than I have invested in the one compound I have owned for 4 years.

Don’t get me wrong, I still enjoy trad but It’s all about how deep you want to go. I’m sure there’s a guy out there that spends more time and money on marbles than I do bows.

Yes I had it pretty bad the first few days. I’m quarantined till tomorrow. Though I sneak off to the WMA by myself, which I’m doing tonight for dove. I did hang the other day for an hour at hunting height and it was pretty cool experience. I go back to work Monday though….. then I’ll be lucky to get back out….. yeah I definitely need more practice.

Sweet. We meet the 3rd Wednesday of every month. We do new member hazing initiation after the Affirmation of Disbelief and before the potluck dinner. Always a fun time!

Thought I might be able to skip all that with my significant donation to the Dumb Old Doe Association.

Why stop at bows? New cars? Who needs em. Flip phones work great for calling. Super synthetic long underwear and fancy silent outer wear? Who needs it. Fishing rods with drag? Ditch em. Use a cane pole.
Let's simplify everything.
Consumerism is every where. Not just the archery/hunting world. Why does just the archery world bum you out but nothing else?

Fair point. I guess I need to go get a horse and buggy. Dunno.

Archery companies (same as other companies) rely on the hype of the "latest and greatest" products to survive. They just wouldn't be able to stay in business selling a bow to their clientele every ten years or so (about the rate at which I tend to upgrade/replace my worn out model). I'll put up with a little hype and try to contain my enthusiasm if it helps keep the options available when I finally do decide to upgrade.

Don't mean to start a argument, but I disagree with you 100%. Trad bow are the easiest to tune of any bow I have ever shoot. I started shooting a compound bow in 1983 and switched to trad in 1993.

I have a Black Widow Iron Wood recurve I purchased in 2001. I have only tuned this bow once in it's life.
Set the brace height to 8 5/8", use a 2216 at 29" with a 125 Gr. head and this bow shoots the same today as it shoot in 2001.
I have three other recurves and the same, only tuned once in their life unless I changed tip weight.

Not sure what you are doing wrong, maybe trying to shot carbon arrows, but you need to get with someone who knows how to bare shaft tune a bow.

Because it's archery. It's supposed to be difficult and its supposed to be limited to the challenges of using the most basic equipment.
I can't understand the oximoron of wanting to be a "bowhunter" but then utilizing the most high tech equipment and then justifying it just because some bureaucrat at the game dept chooses to legalize the weapon in bow season in order to increase license revenue.
It's bow hunting. Get close or deal with eating a tag.
All the other modern devices that our society enjoy are a product of the push for making life easy and tidy. Yeah new cars, cell phones, computers, microwaves, solar panels, Amazon, etc, you name it. These are all about moving forward into the "modern age". But bowhunting is about taking a step back. Not about figuring out how to get a new, high tech device legalized in an already established season.
Get closer and embrace the challenge.

I kinda used to think that way but then I realized my space age truck that shuttled me to the woods wasn’t all that traditional either. And I wasn’t walking.
