Makes me glad

I kinda used to think that way but then I realized my space age truck that shuttled me to the woods wasn’t all that traditional either. And I wasn’t walking.
Exactly what I meant... Your truck, the gas pump that got you there, the electric alarm clock that woke you up, the space age coffee maker, the hot water tank that you showered with is all new-age stuff. Those things are all about advancements in technology Bows are old-age stuff. Bowhunting is just that, minimal equipment. Some things just baffle my mind that they need to be explained. It's like trying to explain a dial phone to a 16 year-old. Bowhunting and high tech is an oxymoron.

I’m thinking they have been putting sights on bows probably a week after the first bow was invented. Notice I said invented. I bet the first guy that made a longbow pissed everyone off that was using spears. And man, the guy with the rocks….

Don’t get me wrong I love shooting trad but I have found I love hunting more than weapons.

He really peed off the run-up-and-bite-em-on-the-noggin crowd. He's the reason there ain't room enough in my jaw for them extra teeth! We got soft and it all started with being too lazy and impatient to get up and walk over to what needed killing.

Becaise it's archery. It's supposed to be difficult and its supposed to be limited to the challenges of using the most basic equipment.
I can't understand the oximoron of wanting to be a "bowhunter" but then utilizing the most high tech equipment and then justifying it just because some bureaucrat at the game dept chooses to legalize the weapon in bow season in order to increase license revenue.
It's bow hunting. Get close or deal with eating a tag.
All the other modern devices that our society enjoy are a product of the push for making life easy and tidy. Yeah new cars, cell phones, computers, microwaves, solar panels, Amazon, etc, you name it. These are all about moving forward into the "modern age". But bowhunting is about taking a step back. Not about figuring out how to get a new, high tech device legalized in an already established season.
Get closer and embrace the challenge.
But I do find it difficult with out even having trad gear. Are you still using a saddle? If you want to dump all that modern stuff get on the ground and stalk em down. Stay out of the tree.

Can you believe no-one is forcing buffalo herds off of cliffs from horseback anymore and now they insist on using these new fangled "bows"??? Hard to watch all these traditional hunting values disappear  Haven't seen anything get beat to death with a club in a long time and it really makes me miss the old days......

just messing with you guys, I am an equal opportunity bowhunter :)

I can’t believe it. It’s pure insanity. Well I opened up a can I cannot close. Lesson learned. Thanks guys.

Most people come to trad archery though compound or gun hunting. They are the gateway drugs, as long as people are getting out there hunting that's the goal right?
People in the woods is always good. I personally don’t want to sacrifice woodsmanship on the alter of technology. And that was what I was lamenting.

I could care less what someone shot as long as they enjoyed what there doing I shoot 75% trad 10% compounds and 15% crossbow and I enjoy tinkering and tuning each one of them for me it’s the fun in learning my equipment and when I get into the woods next week I will start off with my new ILF system and maybe I will switch to my xbow as I decided my one and last compound is going out of rotation this year as I really had lots and lots of fun with my xbow and trad bows so like I said just enjoy what ever you decide to shoot and hunt with and not worry about who shooting what after all we’re all saddle hunters here on this forum and a good portion of us gonna be hunting with our weapon of choice in the saddles. Hell I will be using my MZ and shotgun out of my saddle as well

Does it make you feel better or worse that Fred Bear split with Nelson Grumley (the guy making the bows in early years) after disagreements about the "purity" of fiberglass limbs and mass production? And Bear got Inspired by Arthur Young, who quickly abandoned his "teacher" Ishi's rather primitive Native American bow for the English longbow and then designed the American Flatbow which was in his mind more efficient?

Sport archery as we know it is a product of the 20th century. It had been a long time since your average white dude bow hunted before Pope and Young, and Fred Bear basically started the first #hobbylife intentionally as a genius marketing campaign. For the past 100 years its evolved almost pretty much annually.

Yes you all can point out every little hypocritical little thing you want. But there There is a big difference between putting fiberglass or making a bow flat and lining up sights and pulling a trigger. We all draw the line somewhere.

To answer your question specifically though. It does not make me feel better or worse. I was lamenting at the current state of marketing and a generation of hunter that seemingly felt like they needed all the bells and whistles to get the job done. We clearly are not going to change each other’s mind. Especially by trying to compare advancements of fiberglass technology or bow design in trad bows (which has remained pretty much the same for many years now) to modern advancements in compounds. Which basically make compounds a gun that shoots arrows.

Sport archery btw has been around a lot longer than the 20th century but I agree Fred Bear did a lot to popularize it and bring it to everyone. Read the Witchery of archery it’s five bucks well spent and you will love it.

IMO this thread outlived its usefulness the moment it was written. Please feel free to close.

I tell my friends…..Unless you have an injury or physical issue, crossbow deer don’t count. It’s just lazy.
Does being legally handicapped count after falling off a 30 ft roof and having quite a bit of metal in body in place of bone LOL. And yes bows haven’t changed much over the centuries other than better material and some radical designs better string material which I’m glad. If you don’t care for the marketing of these bows trad included then don’t buy them or look at them and go whittle out a self bow and knapp out some stone points and fix them to some river cane and put them in some animal hide and go hunt. I would speculate if some of those pioneers were alive I would say they would be impressed with modern technology on how archery has come so far
