Makes me glad

so in summary of most of the posts;
Hunting is fun. Go find your adventure, food , tranquil moments, all while helping conservation of wild places.
Invite someone out to the woods that never had a mentor using whatever method of take youre keen on.
Agree. Cool deal.

Becaise it's archery. It's supposed to be difficult and its supposed to be limited to the challenges of using the most basic equipment.
I can't understand the oximoron of wanting to be a "bowhunter" but then utilizing the most high tech equipment and then justifying it just because some bureaucrat at the game dept chooses to legalize the weapon in bow season in order to increase license revenue.
It's bow hunting. Get close or deal with eating a tag.
All the other modern devices that our society enjoy are a product of the push for making life easy and tidy. Yeah new cars, cell phones, computers, microwaves, solar panels, Amazon, etc, you name it. These are all about moving forward into the "modern age". But bowhunting is about taking a step back. Not about figuring out how to get a new, high tech device legalized in an already established season.
Get closer and embrace the challenge.

Well said Tom.

I might be one of the few that hunts with all 3 just about every season. I use my recurve or longbow or the HC Mini when hunting off the ground and might have to make a quick snappier shot, HC Mini when I'm in the saddle for maneuverability and my compound when I feel like dusting it off. I don't think there's anything wrong one way or another.
I understand people wanting to use crossbows because I've fought the urge of pushing a shot with my recurve after seeing a nice deer. Everyone is different and knows their abilities and I don't think it's wrong for a person to know their limits when it comes to their archery tackle.
Shooting carbon arrows and lighted nocks with modern strings and bow materials doesn't make a ton of sense when shooting "traditional" archery either. You're cams and a sight away from shooting a compound. Archery is supposed to be challenging but we're also supposed to make an ethical shot and if a crossbow or modern archery tackle fits that bill in the situation go for it!
I guess all I'm saying is that for the guys that made the switch, don't sell your modern gear just yet because there might be a situation and time when your modern gear will fit the bill and ya wish you had it!

Not what I said, but interpret it as you wish.
How else is there to interpret that it doesn't count?
If Someone scouts, plans, sets up, and executes a shot some how it counts for less than someone who does the same thing except with a Trad. bow? Or a compound? Or a rifle?
Hunter B works hard, doesn't have time to shoot a bow all summer. Busy with family, kids, and what not. Buys a crossbow so he can hunt a few weekends. Shoots a deer but it doesn't count?
If I pick a spot at random and someone bumps a big buck towards me and I kill it does that not count?
Can I get some clarification or what "counting" means?

Technology is a choice basically. Compound bow market is selling the advancement of technology in compound bow, there also advancements in recurve bow too. I see people buy a new bow every year. Nothing wrong with that as long as its disposable money. I dont think its a detriment to bow hunting. You can't really pick a period in time and say this...this is how we should live or act, all other advancements is going to ruin this ideal snapshot in time. We all mostly agreed on the definition of traditional as a single string. But even within that there are advancements. And those advancements are result of companies trying to sell products. Or else Bear would only made one type of bow. No more ILFs, no more takedowns, plungers, clickers, etc.

Live and let live.
Hunt and let hunt.

“So long as the new moon returns in heaven a bent, beautiful bow, so long will the fascination of archery keep hold in the hearts of men.”

You mean that putting reticle #4 on the 43 yd deer and squeezing the trigger isn’t really the same as shooting a bow?

Great post. I have three acquaintances that are physically fit, two extremely so. All have plenty of time and $, as well as leased or owned hunting property. The fact that they’ve picked up the xbow is lazy to me. They even have the benefit of controlling the hunting pressure. It’s about being easier. Plain and simple. Two are twice my size and can’t draw my trad bows. It’s hilarious.

At the end of the day, a dead deer is a dead deer. It doesn't really matter how it was killed. Still have to be in the woods to get the job done. Some people are lazy, some people don't have time to practice, some people just enjoy hunting more than shooting.

Some guys just like to spend money on gear. Weather it’s archery or saddles or whatever. You should see how much I spend on golf and still stink at it. If you like spending your dollars on new gear then by all means have at it. I just find it ironic that we are talking how bad the latest and greatest archery gear is while most of us are hanging from a tree in a high tech butt sling device.

Butt sling device sound a lot sexier than hunting diaper that my wife usually tell people when she try to explain saddle hunting.

But to be honest, this is nothing compared to the money AND TIME I spent on video games when I was a single man in my 20s.

I figured I’ve had my “butt in a sling “ so many times in my life calling it that just seemed natural. I will probably use hunting diapers unless your wife has a copyright! Lol

Can I interest you in joining the Fraternity of the $250 Chair? The Brotherhood of the Vertical Bow? Hunters Against Intelligent Bucks? Pin-On Ball Compass Unlimited? The National Doyle's Huntin' Hoist Foundation?
I’m in all of those but the Pin-on Ball Compass Unlimited. I do love my GPS apps so that will be a hard one to break.

If you enjoy the sense of superiority over fellow hunters a saddle brings you, being the guy with a compass on his chest is a WHOLE number level. It was enough for me that I was able to quit bow hunting entirely.

Wait, pin on ball compasses aren’t cool? I’ll have to hide mine in my Fanny pack.
