Team 2 Thread

Snuck into a new spot this morning. I initially planned to hunt the edge of a little swampy area, but I blew that spot out before first light. Maybe pizza and beer, followed by coffee this morning wasn’t such a great idea.

Regrouped and found a new spot to work with the wind. Just turkeys so far.

Well, nada for me this morning. Cool area though, that second one. I’ll probably get out during the week sometime. Good luck if you’re up!

Had to work night shift last night had a bike race this morning last one of the series for the year.. wet and muddy here… I’m dragging been up for 30 some Hours ready to eat sleep and hopefully knock a buck down tomorrow.

Tonight’s the night, sitting in a tree I prepped a couple years ago, green alfalfa and green soybeans in front of me.. oaks behind me dropping acorns. Already saw one doe milling around in the oaks.. I have three historic trails coming out below me and if those bucks do what they did on Friday it should give me a 25 yard shot… I hope to report back with some kill pics.

A swing and a miss…. I did see him and the group of bucks… Had I been in the tree I was in Friday I’d be posting hero pics..

Around 6 I saw another one of the guys that hunt this farm driving around the perimeter of the fields in his side by side. He stopped roughly 800 yards directly across multiple fields from me on a high point. I knew he was glassing..

When I got back to the truck he was waiting on me. Said he was waiting the whole time to see me shoot the deer… he confirmed definitely a shooter.. I figured with that sighting he’d be wanting to hunt tomorrow but he said he isn’t planning on it and wished me luck… said he’s been spotting them quite a few times and they are mostly coming out on the side I sat the other day.. milling around In the beans and then heading out the water way for the night…

Good wind tomorrow so I will be back in tree #1

Still throwing everything at this bean field till it turns.. have a off wind for hunting this place but with limited days before I go back to work and the bucks split up i figured it was time to push the envelope… I had to hang in a new tree do to the wind. I’m not super high but it’s a small field edge tree and providing a lot of back cover.. nice scrape at 15 yards.. just hoping those limbs in the tree InFront of me don’t cause me issues

I’m up. They cleared out this WMA pretty good since the last time I was in here in the spring. I’m pretty exposed, so just tried to get high. There is a literal horde of little small, annoying flying bugs that are apparently thermacell immune. I can’t wait for the first freeze. Gonna be a tough sit.

First frost is truly a magical time. I keep looking at long range forecasts for that first sub-30 temp.

Looks like low 70's during the day and mid 50's at night for this weekend. Still way too warm but a chance of rain may get them moving this weekend.

Blah that slight off wind got me. Saw a pile of deer had the big buck at 25 yards he was at my 7:00 back in the woods too dark to see through the scope. Winds was blowing to my 9:00 but then shifted towards 7:00 him and the other buck he was with didn’t tear off but definitely knew something was up. I prolly should have stayed out tonight… I can only hunt tomorrow and can’t get back out for a week… part of me is thinking go to another farm and give this place a break, however another part of me is saying hunt the beans before they turn especially since nothing blew and took off.. what’s your Guys thoughts?

I'd give it one more night but go in a different spot along the beans assuming the wind cooperates. Unless you blow out an area, I'm of the opinion you don't leave game to find game.

Didn’t see a thing tonight. I’ll have to rethink my approach to this WMA. I think the clearing on the hills just makes it too open for deer. I’ll probably be out again this weekend at some point.

Once the heavy snow flies, I'll be stuck with the local WMA's. Until that happens or I tag out, I haven't even scouted any of the local areas. Best come to best, I'll do some winter/early spring scouting for next year.
