AITA/negative encounter.

a few years ago, i shared some private property with a real piece of work

to give you a hint...guy was able bodied and in his 40s with kids and described me and a few others as 'the kind of guys that have jobs'....

anyways, he had permission first and liked the east side of the 250 acres and had a ladder stand and feeder there

i talked with him and said i'd stay on the west side, which was a forested hill and ended up being where the bucks were at

you might consider splitting the property down the middle with him and just staying on your side

Try again to talk to neighbor A and see if you can reach a mutual understanding/agreement. If not, reach out to the landowner and get them involved in who has permission and who doesn't. If that leads to losing hunting privileges then it's no loss because hunting 30 acres with someone you can't get along with wasn't worth it anyway.

good advice

if it were me, i'd talk to the landowner in a calm mood and be careful how i portray things

if i was the landowner and thought i had guys fighting over my property, i'd be tempted to just call the whole thing off in order to not have a headache

Not just any guys, mutual neighbors. Probably the landowner would not be too excited to set ground rules for either hunter.

If per chance the whole thing was canned for all involved, my hunch says A is going to hunt it, exclusively, without permission.

That was my thought as well , the second 2 guys that you have permission to start squabbling over something they don’t own you may be inclined to say forget it. I’d probably be more inclined to talk to the guy with the problem & see if you can just work it out & not mention squat to the landowner. I have access to a place that has a few guys on it, sometimes they can be ridiculous. I always go out of my way to help the landowner & show how much I appreciate the opportunity! In turn he speaks pretty freely with me & we’ve become friends but it took 15 years & ive seen a lot of guys come & go. It hunts a lot like public land & I continue to maintain the permission b/c it’s close to home.

Yeah I'd say say some kind of communication is the only thing that's going to sustainably de-escalate the situation. Whether you draw boundaries and stake claims or learn to share and communicate where you hunt, depending what makes sense.

I'd say no a-holes in this situation, you guys have been playing treestand roulette on a small property and even pretty reasonable level headed guys can get a little whizzed off when they go into a spot and have company. If he's the type to fume over a hunting spot you're probably just up chit creek and might as well find another place to hunt unless you want to start a war and get the LO involved.

decent chance the neighbor doesn't hunt anywhere else so that 30 acres is 'his precious'

I wouldn't want to lose permission. Maybe Neighbor A decides to move somewhere warmer or something like that.

In the meantime, the fact that it blew up after so many amicable years suggests it can be salvaged. Always start by listening, and work to a position where you're both in each others shoes instead of in each others faces.

Best of luck.

Alright fellas, update time. Not much to report. I called my neighbor that had an issue with me yesterday and left a voicemail saying I wasn’t happy with how things ended yesterday and that we hunt the same property, there’s no reason not to come up with a reasonable solution.

I feel better already. I extended an olive branch. If he doesn’t take it, the burden is off of me and on him. I have permission to hunt this property, so I’m going to.

Thanks to everyone for taking the time read this and offer up their thoughts, solutions, and skunks in chimney ideas.

Did I ever tell the story about my some dude's first crappy fastfood job and the vial of Liquid A** that got hidden in the office, costing the proprietor a good chunk of money to have the place professionally cleaned and threatening our health inspection score?
Just so I don't have to search "liquid a## vial" maybe we need to hear it

I'll tell ya what you need to do. Your a saddle hunter right? So you go in an hour before daylight when you know he's gonna use that ladder stand and you set up 20 yards from it. Then when he sneaks in before first light you "accidentally" mistake him for that 10 pointer you've been chasin for the last 3 years. Problem solved. I can't believe none of you other guys could come up with this before me. Sheesh. What a bunch of slackers. Haha! (Disclaimer) I'm just kidding. Don't shoot him. :tearsofjoy:
