Hunting Canemount WMA in Mississippi delta.Saw 5 this evening but none in range that didn’t have spots ha. Fronts pushing through tonight with a little rain so next 2 days should be fine with a 15-20 degree drop from today to tomorrow’s high. I’ll post tomorrow

I’m whooped. Did a lot of scouting today. Unfortunately every single oak tree in this county is dropping heavy. It’s making hard to pin point action. Saw 2 does outside of recurve range this morning and bumped 2 does while scouting. Found some fresh scrapes and some buck poo. 9065020B-5360-4359-BE08-86D208D8DE5F.jpeg

What do you have attached to the thermacell in order to hang it? I've been trying to figure something out.

If you have the new MR300 this is an option that can attach to a lot of bags or gear straps and it fits perfectly. Just drop it in. Put bungee over the top and hang it from the back or the bungee itself wherever you want.

Ok, what are you tethered into??? That JRB method looks nifty, tho!

Well this has been a disaster of a morning. Apparently a deer was bedded not far off from my tree this morning at 5a.m. (not where they normally bed) and my red light coupled with the sound of my Jx3 scraping a limb as i went up made her blow at me. Then several hogs showed up, 3 of which were with the other 2 i shot yesterday and never came out of cover. Not a deer to be seen all morning, i guess getting blowed at was enough to ruin this morning. Not what i had planned..‍♂️

this was my first time hunting using any rope climbing method even though I have been climbing ropes now for two years. I hit my crotch on the second throw after catching some brush on the ground with my initial attempt. I didn’t pay attention to my rope at first and it was twisted but luckily I came down before I got going to far. Then the tree I was hunting was on the side of a fairly steep hill and I wasn’t able to touch the tree starting out which made ascending a little more tedious since I could barely reach the Yee with my support foot. I’m not sure how you would deal with the twist in the ropes if you were climbing a crotch you couldn’t contact the tree to stop the spin for a great deal of time.

I keep coming back to the tried and true Samson Predator 7/16” with steel auto locking carabiner and Sewn Eye to Eye 8mm ECW Prussic. It’s got a great grip and gives me superior confidence when in the tree. I connect to 1” tubular webbing bridge attached with aluminum frame buckles from Austrian alpine. Secondary is 5/16” Samson ultra tech bridge tied directly to d-ring with a scaffold knot. When I get read to come down I take out my figure eight and connect to it with my secondary bridge and connect back to the JRB system with my main bridge and down I go. 1E27EAB4-512A-4132-9DB8-3E369BA238F0.jpeg

I just have a short loop of paracord through the little plastic pieces in the back.
Quick, cheap, and easy. (Just like me in high school…)

Silently but loudly in my head singing “I’m backkk in the saddle againn, I’m backkkkk” if you know the song, you know. Saddle hunting has definitely lit a fire under me for deer hunting again.

First try with my recurve in the saddle...
Get you a kwiklock! I was skeptical but they are sweet. You can tilt your bow shelf down and the arrow won’t fall out. As soon as you grab the string to draw back it lets go. It Made a difference for me from my first hunt with my recurve to my second hunt with my recurve. Good luck!D0639F96-2B6C-4B45-9883-9E5D382B28A1.png

I need something. My first arrow on the shelf ended up on the ground inside of 10 minutes of hanging my bow up. Good lessons today. 2 does at 50 yards, they never came in. Great day in the woods!

UPDATE: Big Jim has a widget called Stop the Drop, so I ordered one.

Well I’ve started to take the, walk until you find deer approach this early season. No sign, no sign, no sign, then I see tracks all over the place. Bumped 4 does up out of their bed. Wind was in my favor. I cut to the other side of the peninsula hoping they try and loop back around closer to dark. Warmed up a good bit and the mosquitos are trying to drag me off, but it is a beautiful day none the less.9BB06BC7-BFDF-4757-9949-563C19D3552F.jpeg
