Live from the saddle 2021

It’s a beautiful day to be in a tree!

@CooterBrown to the best of my knowledge this is a water oak....the leaves are similar to the scrub oak but darker more foresty green and a scrub oak is more grey with little green....water is very similar to live oak but live oak acorns are more round....I could be way off cause I'm just a dummy making internet and book educated guesses. Please correct me anyone who is better at tree identification

Setup on a dual scrape / feeding area for this afternoon & evening. A couple decent 8-pointers have been active here for the past two days during daylight hours based on cell cam intel. Here’s hoping they come through again today.

Just had 2 does get up 60 yards in front of me. Had to drop my daughter off at school so I didn’t get to the tree til around 9:30. 5 deer including the y. Pretty good midday action. Just hoping something bigger comes by and in range.

Me too only my granddaughter. Now I need to go pick her up.

Man did I just screw up. I wasn’t thrilled with the tree I picked and decided to move real quick to cover the trails better. In particular because the dies and that buck were all on the one at 30 yards and I like them in closer. Of course just as I’m at the base of the new tree is when a shooter shows up. I saw him coming and got an arrow on but he got to 7 yards and I think he caught movement. He just turned around and walked away, stopped for a nibble at 20 yards then kept going, the whole way behind brush. Eat a sandwich, take a pee break, move your tree, that’s when it happens lol. That’s hunting but it’s easy to second guess some decisions right now. Ugh.

Good to hear they up and moving in the early afternoon!

No dice guys. The tracker was awesome...he brought 3 dogs and rotated all of them. All set off on the same trail before going cold. I learned so much today. Mature deer are another beast. If the deer doesn't show stress, it's hard to trail. Blood was good at the shot and got less and less.

I prepare relentlessly. I walked in with sticks and platform, set up, and had both mature deer inside 20. This stings a little.

Good luck buddy. Hang in there. Bowhunting is hard but that's why we do it. There's nothing like the feeling of accomplishment after it all comes together :) .
That's the dang truth. I'm my worst critic and hard enough on myself that I think my wife is starting to question that I hunt in part to relax. I've had to keep reminding myself about how dang good it feels when it works. That's why we do it. The struggle and the grind is what makes the success so rewarding. Never want to wound anything but hunting sure wouldn't be the same if you got a deer every time you went out.

Thanks everyone. I can't let it get to me....I've done that in the past. The tracker said it's 3 to 1 on recoveries with big rutty bucks and a different animal all together when they're over 4.5 yrs old.

Still have to go back and pack my set. I'll take a look at the shot angle. If anything, I think I was low and back, but not anywhere near the guts....I didn't stop him as he was just creeping. I tried to take his heart out.
Going to look at if I could have had a deflection I didn't notice at first.

Go get'em guys.
