Hey guys looking to do some handgun hunting. Just bought a Ruger GP100 in .357 5” barrel. Gonna use a EGW mount for a Vortex Venom red dot.
I’ve not sighted in a handgun so looking for advice/opinions for sight in yardage. I’d expect my shots to be around 50 yards.
So here’s my main question. Would you rather sight it in for 25,50,100. Then shoot different ranges off a certain zero and see how it does.(high or low). Id think 50 yard sight it would make sense but I’m curious what other guys do. Thanks!

I usually sight in at 25 yards and practice at 50-100. The point of impact from 25 to 50 is negligible. It your call on what distance your comfortable with. But practicing at 100 will help you be better at 50. Then if a deer comes out at 60 and you feel comfortable with the shot, your ready and prepared because you practiced and we’re confident out to 100(in this example). If it comes out at 40 even better.

I set my S&W 686 7” 357 at 75 yards. Leupold 2.5-8x32. Shot this pig at 60 in the ear hole with a 140gr Barnes XPB from Buffalo Bore. I’m bucked out at my lease for this year so I haven’t had a chance to shoot a deer with it yet but it should do the trick.
