Losing Confidence in my Saddle set up

I have had a few bad sit/set ups with my current saddle set up, and honestly I believe its because Ive one-sticking. Has this happened to anyone else? After this season I am going back to a few sticks and some aiders.

Anyone else come across this? Losing confidence in your mobile set up?

Curious for more details, you made a lot of noise, didn’t get in the right spot, didn’t see deer , we’re uncomfortable…..
Nope I saw deer, and was on fresh sign of rubs and scrape line, its more of that I feel as im making a lot of noise, and having to work really hard to stay comfortable in the saddle when climbing up one sticking. I keep my bridge really short, which I believe it makes me sit more upright, and causing the leg straps to really dig in.

I was all in on it last year and loved it, but after more time climbing this way, I feel like I might be more efficient, and quiet with multiple sticks. I understand that its not always going to be easy, and there is always bad sits, climbs, etc. I just need to figure out some adjustments to make it more efficient.

Gotcha that explains more, so the issue is just more being uncomfortable dangling while one sticking? I can double check later but I’m not sure there is a huge weight savings for onesticking/ plus rope gear to get down vs my 4 sticks ( just less bulk & more versatility for hunting height) …….. that’s not to say give up on onesticking but maybe it’s not your thing. The other thing might be your not actually hanging very long while climbing in relationship to how long the hunt is……..

My advice would be to try and lengthen your bridge some while you’re one sticking and see how that feels. Also I prefer not to wear my leg loops when climbing, I would try it at ground level first to see if that improves your problems.

Ill give that a shot thanks!

Yes its more of uncomfortable while moving to the next step, ill have to play with the bridge length and see if thats it.

I only use a mobile set up if my presets go dry, which hasn’t happened in many years. In my opinion you will never be as quiet or efficient as having many presets. Public land I set up cheap climbing sticks and private screw in steps. I think a lot of newer saddle hunters feel that because you are loosing the treestand and saving weight you have to do mobile hunting and forgot about presets. No mobile system wether it’s sticks, strap on steps one sticking etc. will ever be quieter than prepped trees. Maybe you should look into this? Hope you figure out what best works for you. Good luck!

Sounds like SRT in general. Up and down. :grimacing:
SRT is my primary and one stick is my backup plan. I haven’t one sticked all season. Did plenty of afternoon sits in new, non prepped spots as well. Just threw the ball and used SRT for those. It’s super easy to carry the one stick if I do find a spot I feel I have to be in and the tree is not SRT friendly.

I went out and messed with my bridge length on the ascent and descent, and without the leg straps and honestly it was way more comfortable with a longer bridge length and not having the leg strap on. I would put them on when I was set up. I did that 5 times and it was great. @MSbowhunter48
Good deal, it’s crazy how little adjustments like that can make all the difference. Goodluck to you the rest of the year!

I think when I weighed using one stick, 40’ of sterling htp, a gri gri plus, carabiners and a hand ascender, I saved about 2 lbs which was roughly the weight of one of the sticks I used. So I agree it’s not a huge weight savings. If you’re running oplux though it’s probably another pound and a half saved.

I agree and honestly its not really back weight savings for me, I just saw it and figured why not try it. I would rather carry more weight and be more efficient then cut weight. Ill give this a try the rest of the season then see what happens.

If you’re hunting the same areas or even trees all year, another great option is preset paracord loops and then climb and descend using a rope system such as Ddrt or SRT. If you’ve one sticked, you’ve probably rappelled down. Rope system as light, safe, mostly noise free and not terribly hard to do. Many people don’t like using throwballs or extension sticks to set ropes on hunting day so for newer guys rope systems only work with presets. Just another option to consider.
