I'd like to thank God Almighty and my good buddy @GCTerpfan for a great day of firsts! First time taking a stickbow into the woods, first time hunting in MD, first time packing out a deer.

We made it to the location and got settled before the sun came up.

Many of yall have been joking with me for awhile now that I just need to go get a deer within 15yds. Well I'll be darned if a deer didn't come down this old logging road at 0930 and stop 6yds from my tree!

I hit him farther back than intended (maybe @GCTerpfan can post the video at some point). I remember the shot cycle went sideways after I bumped my bridge with the bow string and didn't have the wherewithal in the moment to restart the entire process again. When I released the string, he dropped and spun and I ended up hitting him right down next to the spine on the opposite side of where I was aiming. He walked 75yds and @GCTerpfan saw him lay down in a thicket edge. We sat in the trees reviewing the footage and recalling the signs he showed and eventually deemed it to be a liver hit.

Since he laid down so close, we waited there in the trees until 1230 and then decided to get down and sneak out the back way. Had lunch at the camp and crept back in to find him at 1430. He only got up once from where we saw him lay down in the morning and moved another 10yds before laying down again. It was so good to recover him without incident! @GCTerpfan showed me how to pack out an animal using the gutless method. It was awesome!

And yes, first time wearing my super-cool super-UV-blue pants into the woods too! Apparently this deer didn't even notice :tearsofjoy:

Don't forget first time hunting in 22 deg temps. :)

I had a great time and it's awesome to get to see someone get their first Trad deer. Glad it worked out for you and your welcome back anytime!

Had this young doe come in with 3 spotted fawns. At first wasn’t going to shoot as I don’t normally with does with fawns.
But after a few minutes I said them babies are eating those white oaks pretty good .

After a few the supposed wet doe stood broadside at about 15 yards and I settled into my anchor, held and release when it felt right.
I held too low and even with the deer dropping to launch it just missed and under her LH armpit.

Well the Lord of second chances allowed me to reload and the deer gave me another shot albeit a little further out. Made a bad shot far back on a steep quartering away shot and it hit the RH ham angling forward. I was sick but hopeful I cut the femur artery.

I backed out for an hour and half and gave her time. My buddy and I found she ran only 25 - 30 yards max. And she was a yearling and not a mommy!

I’ve been very fortunate with my 2021 season. This is my 2nd full season with the Trad bow. Hunted some late season for doe a few years ago but then a shoulder injury put me back to compound. Last year was my 1st real season hunting with it. I killed a couple doe’s but never had a good opportunity at a buck. This year I just killed my 3rd buck in 3 different states. 1st buck was in Ky, 2nd was Illinois public and 3rd Ohio public. I couldn’t be happier. Been lucky

Shot this buck Saturday my 1st sit in Ohio this year. The shot was back but I watched him bed down about 150 yards after shot. It was early in evening so I snuck out and called a dog tracker for next morning. My buddies came to help me with track. The dog did great and found my buck. Shot him with my widow PSA 60” 52lbs@28” and a 580 grain arrow. The shot was 34yards broadside.
