What is your favorite small tent wood stove for heating?

This doesn’t exactly fit the bill for small but anyone else looking for a very inexpensive tent stove look at the TMS camp stove. Tons of reviews on YouTube and with a few minor tweaks you can get a pretty good setup for under $100. I amazon primed one this year to heat my deer camp 16x20 military tent and was very pleased. With a full load of hard wood I was able to get a solid 3 1/2-4 hours of burn time.
I have the same stove. But need a couple extra pipes (any ideas?). The stove cap is only about 1 - 2 ft above my Wall tent.

Built my own, its a copy of a TiGoat wifi(now out of business) in stainless steel. Pipe is not stainless--its 10' long, I've got a pice of 8' stainless to try out too, but I wanted lots of clearance for when the thing is pumping...

I use a Mr. Buddy propane heater in my Cabela's Instinct tent. Not packable, but I tend to haul in with an ATV/Trailer so the larger tent, heater and propane weight isn't as big a deal for me. If you're only gonna be set up for a night or two, then the smaller propane canisters work fine. If for a longer trip, again if you aren't packing in, a BBQ propane tank with an adapter hose will last about a week.

Not a wood stove, but might be worth considering instead of one.

@Vtbow I burned in my new stove today! Lite Outdoors xl 18”, and pitched my new Cimmaron tipi, my first tipi tent, I just threw it up quick in my back yard to give it a try, I’m not 100% sold on the tipi idea yet but it’s starting to grow on me, time will tell, that little stove is impressive, when I assembled it I thought here is a waste of $300 but to be honest I was wrong, I like it for what it is, -9 here right now and last time I ran out and checked that tent was like a sauna!31B969A4-A475-4426-8A72-880285A028C0.jpeg8EA4CBF5-7039-4040-9044-3A26038413F4.jpeg

Very cool, have you seen these kits? I've heard really good things and have thought about one just to test it out. Nice job on that build. Looks pro.

They are amazing! That's a great looking setup.tilis are awesome. I had a megamid setup with a stove jack installed very similar to that and loved it. But it was too big for my solo needs....though pitched fast and didn't need to bring a tarp when camping cause I could fit all my gear in it. They're great in wind, quick to setup and evem keep the bugs out when pitched tight to the ground. I'll see if I can find some pics. Congrats on the setup, you're going to love it!

I just bought an ammo can at Garbage Freight and made it my own from there. I probably have around $15 in it in materials, not including my time.

Looks perfect! Quick question, do you just let that flap on the stove jack rest against the pipe like that? On my old canvas wall tents the stove jack had no flap, this new one is just like yours, I was wondering if I should fasten it back somehow or just let it ride against the pipe.
Yes, just let the flap sit there. Prevents rain or snow from dripping in.

I heard many positive reviews about Camp Chef Alpine Cylinder Stove, Camp Chef is known for their fantastic outdoor stoves. Personally I ordered new outdoor gear at Everest store at good prices. I like that all gear for outdoor activities are in one store. This year I'm planning to go camping so I've already ordered new tent there too.

This is my next setup to test, it's a luxe Outdoors rocket xl, pretty much a kifaru patatipi/super tarp copy. I have a kifaru parastove to pair with it.

Any updates on this? I don’t know what’s going on with Luxe but the Rocket is no longer on the site, I’m researching a super tarp or CC Divide by Viam outdoors, my main question is can you sit in a chair like my Helinox ground chair, with a stove and not constantly be bumping your head on the ceiling, have you tried it, thanks!

I think there are weird things happening over at Luxe right now, not sure I would order anything from them, and if I did I would use paypal for an easy dispute if needed. I think they are having a hard time getting inventory, but selling it as if they have it....Lots of discussion over at ROKSLIDE and other backpacking forums.....

The rocket was not tall enough for me to sit in a chair like a helinox, but fine for like a crazy creek or ems mountain chair style seat. I ended up selling the rocket, as convenient as the side entrance was there were a few things I didnt like:
-IF the side zipper went in the back country the whole tarp was kind of shot
-Because the entrance was on the side, the larger end couldn't be open and used as more of a wing style tarp
-when the side door was open the thing was like a sail. If the end was openable, it at least could be better positioned for the tail of the tarp into the wind
-I wanted something a little more versatile--meaning it wasnt always a enclosed tarp

I ended up with a Kifaru Super tarp with annex(older tie in) that should have actually been here yesterday. I like the idea that I can bring or leave the annex. It also will be easy to make a netting entrance for it if wanted for bug season, I'm not sure if the foot print will end up being too big for my use or not, but i wanted something big enough to hang out in if the weather sucks, but not so big it is a pain to find a place to set it up. I had originally wanted a paratarp, but decided it was too small. I"ll keep you in the loop when the super tarp shows up...I might just end up sticking with my BT-3, we'll see.

I think if you are looking for something a little bigger to be able to sit in with a chair, something like a SO cimmaron, or Kifaru mega tarp(more vertical sidewalls than the super), sawtooth.

I can sit in my SO Bt-3 with an old EMS wooden chair(Byer's of Maine Made) But its tight.

I"m still deciding on what stove I will pair with the Supertarp and my BT3. I have a 12" Lite outdoor cylinder coming and these I"ve been working on.

Cone style designed after SO big sibling, not really for cooking, but could be used as a twig stove outside of tent. This is 1.27lbs WITH a 4' stove pipe:

A copy of a medium Tigoat Wifi(which might get cut down to a narrower width and smaller height):

First is with 10" ti body, second is with 7" SS body...not sure what I will end up with...

And a ridiculously cool design I"m still piecing together and testing is based upon an inverted J-burner that was designed by Tim in Australia ( timtinker.com ). Definitely not an overnight burner, but can cook and heat, and is super compact. The guy is an absolute genius and the thought, testing and design that goes into hi DIY stuff is amazing. Totally worth checking him out. Still need to build a feed tube and ovciously no stove pipe is on it, thats just a pipe adapter currently in place.

Great post! Those stoves look super I’m impressed! I’m also on Rokslide and following the Luxe drama thread, a couple days ago there was a smoking deal on a gen 1 Supertarp, $375. My Helinox is the ground chair, I need 36” to not have my head rubbing on the frost in the morning. Please let me know what you think when you try that Supertarp, I’m ordering either a CC Divide, Supertarp, or Sawtooth real soon. If only a person could drive to a show where all these tents were set up I could make my decision in about 5 minutes. My main requirements, stove jack, enough head room to sit in my chair (36”), and enough room to be in said chair and not be 1” from the stove, I also want enough clearance for my pad/bag/bivy away from the stove. I’ll be 100% solo when running this package, and always be using a stove, lite outdoors xl. I have the Cimarron already, it’s posted above in this thread, it’s hitting the classifieds probably this weekend, I’ve messed with it in the yard a few times and it’s not for me, I’m trying something different. What I’m most interested in with your Supertarp, if you think you will have enough room to sit in your ground chair comfortably, head clearance, with your bag behind you and stove in the annex, I’ve scoured the web for days on end watching youtube videos and still can’t find that answer lol. In my mind the prefect solo shelter for me will have, my lite outdoors stove in the annex with a small pile of wood around it, my bag/bivy/pad in the other end, and then enough room in between by the highest part of the tarp to sit in my chair and stretch my legs and cook on my canister stove, the CC Divide looks to be a little bigger than a Supertarp, yet much smaller compared to the Sawtooth which looks huge to me, and the Sawtooth price makes me choke a little, actually a lot, is what it is though I guess.

Thats right, I forgort you got the cimmaron....

The super tarp didnt show up again yesterday like it was supposed to....silly UPS @huck72412 I dont think will drive up my muddy road for some reason, its not even that bad of a mud season, they're getting soft!

I honestly think the Lite Outdoors xl 18 is going to be too big for any of these shelters. I think they reccomend them for something like tents with a 12' diamerter? I think you will be bumping into the thing regularly getting in and out of the tent, and it will take up a significant amount of the sitting room you're looking for. The CC Divide reccomends the 12" lite outdoor stove. The sawtooth offers the 18" smith with it, which I Think would be comparable to your LO 18". The Sawtooth is a much larger area around the stove

There's also a jimmy tarps alpine basin over on ROK for sale with a stove jack. Very similar to the super tarp, but with entrances on both sides and vertical ends. the foot box is also higher. ITs a pretty sweet deal, I think the guy wants like $250 for it. I"ve been eyeing it as I really like the double entrances, but it cuts down on the versatility I was looking for in the super tarp....

My problem with going with a too large of a shelter is setup space. THe footprint is just as important to me. The super tarp should be able to be tucked in between some trees because of it's narrower width if needed. think 68" width Vs. even the 9' width I need for my Bt-3. I think your cimmaron is probably similar in sizein that it is over 8' in one direction, and over 9' in another....thats a pretty big open area needed. Not sure of where you plan to use it.

Give it a little time, once my super tarp is here, I'll set it up with the LO 12" stove and a chair and shoot some pics for ya, and take some measurements. You may end up wanting a smaller stove. I think the medium sized stoves from all companies are the most versatile. They seem like they would be usable in the widest variety of shelters.....

In that case you decide on a smaller stove, you could probably sell your cimarron with the stove as a set, so you might want to wait a little....
