New bow in the works

Well my dad won't be around forever and I don't know how many grandkids I'll have. It would be a shame if I didn't have enough bows to make sure they all had one from their great grandfather.

At least that's what I tell my wife.
Ouch. You didn’t have to go that deep on me! I’d love to be able to do something like this with my dad and have to pass on to kids and grandkids. Looking forward to the finished product.

Haha. It's a line I know we'll. I repeat it often when my wife says "another bow?!". I actually just recited it this evening at my nephew's baseball game and my 12 yr old son had my back. He followed it up by saying "and Mom, I plan on having at least twelve kids" :)

Edit: he's my youngest of three kids. Now I just need to get the other two to commit to at least that many. Lol

That black walnut is going to pop on that bow when it’s all finished. The burl wood almost looks like butternut which would also be awesome. My Dad cut down a butternut years ago and milled boards out of it and dried them for wanescoating in their house. He also had a cabinet made from it Love the rich colors of those two like species together.

You guys decided on specs yet? Is he going to try moving grip more forward like you mentioned he was thinking about?

Shooting for 48-50lbs at my 30" draw. Bow will be 62".

Yes this is the new riser design. Here are some pics of the "sister bow" made from the other half of the riser blocks that is a little farther along. This one will be my dad's bow and is 45# at his 28" draw.

Looking good, so your family preferred a high grip in general?

Yeah, they're not a super high wrist but they aren't a low wrist longbow grip. I only have one low wrist grip on a Hitman longbow and I don't like it as well. It's also #64 at my draw so that might be part of it.

So what does your dad uses for limbs? Core? Veneer from same wood? Has he ever consider some of the new tech like carbon in the laminate?

The limbs for both of these bows will have a parallel and tapered lamination of Walnut. He's made limbs with cores of osage, bamboo, maple, and others. He's also used carbon a few times. The last two bows he made for me had carbon with Bocote veneers. A set of limbs he recently made from walnut outshot my carbon/bocote limbs. which is why I kept it simple and went with walnut on this bow.

Walnut has an a nice tight grain not sure why more boyers don’t use it for both durability and speed.
