2TC foot loop help

I’m looking to change my Foot Loop from rope to webbing. I was hoping to keep the rope for the bottom tether but use webbing for the loop attached to a friction hitch.

My thought process is that I will be able to adjust the loop up and down the tether depending on tree size.

I do have a knaider swaider from backwoods mobile gear I was hoping to retrofit for this. Is there anyway to do this with the current hooks on them, or would I need to cut them off? I have an angle
grinder so I can get it done easily. But I do not have a good enough sewing machine to take them apart and re-sew them. Do I just use the knaider and trust the hook not to slip out?

Any ideas welcomed.

Does your swaider have a hook or is it the style that requires a carabineer to attach to your climbing method? A carabineer would be my preferred method of attaching it to a friction hitch for foot tether use, especially since you won't need to disconnect it while climbing.
Not sure how I would go about using a knaider for that purpose

Mine has a hook not a biner, that’s what I was thinking of cutting off

If there's room to finagle a carbineer in alongside the hook I think I would try that before cutting the hook off. That way if the swaider isn't the answer you're looking for you haven't changed it irreversiblely

i tried that, can’t do it.

I agree though, I don’t want to change it in case I decide To let them go

It may be worth trying it with the hook, some people prefer removing their foot from the foot loop while they reposition the bottom tether and the undoing the hook should accomplish the same freedom and extra range of motion for repositioning the tether.

If you have some 1"tubular webbing, you could make a simple loop by tying a water know in the webbing and then clip that into a carabiner to a friction hitch on the rope. This would let you try it out without changing your Knaider swaider.

good point, personally I leave my foot attached though so the tether can’t accidentally fall down the tree. But I may have to try it.

i do not have any. I do have a five step aider I though about canibalizing as well

I always remove my foot each time and really can't see how it could fall down, but as sure as I say that, lol. What about some ratchet strap webbing?

i do have a bunch of that, probably way too much haha.

I would think it would be strong enough if it is new to use for a foot loop connected to a climbing rope via carabiner. You will be supported by the main tether for life support. Maybe carry along a second foot tether for backup. This might be good to test proof of concept and let you know if you want to make something more permanent.

I think I’m the mean time I should use the hook. The whole point of the switch was the rope starting hurting my foot halfway through the climb. I guess if the webbing isn’t enough I’d try seatbelt webbing as that’s even wider.

I used ratchet strap for my initial foot loop and it held my 250# bouncing on it with no issues, it wasn't stiff enough to stay open though and my foot kept slipping out of it. Someone mentioned using the wide strap that comes with a H.S.S. for their foot loop in the 2TC thread, that's essentially seatbelt material if you have one of those laying around

ketch22,
I used a rope, then changed to a tree harness safety strap. I had one left over from an old harness and kept it in case I found a use for it some day. Well, I recently started trying the 2TC method and tried several things for the bottom tether. I ended up with this safety belt harness, which would work the same as a seat belt in a car. I tied a simple loop for my carabiner to attach to it and the Ropeman1. The Ropeman1 makes the entire rig adjustable for varying tree diameters. I use the same Ropeman1 setup for the upper tether too.

I’ll see what I have lying around in the AM and let you know what I come up with.

I've used seat belts out of cars, that I purchased from a junk yard. Just fold the ends over, drill a 3/8" hole through the layers and put a bolt though it to make a loop or for pack straps, etc. I used SS hardware and nylock nuts to hold it in place. Just a thought, in case you can't find anything else. :)

Noooo, dont do that. What you need to do is go to Eastern Woods Outdoors and buy stuff. Probably should get parts for 3 maybe 4 different setups to figure out what will work best for you and then list the other stuff on the classifieds. What kind of support group would we be if we didnt encourage and enable. Now go and spend with purpose and commitment. ;)
