Things you tried, wish it worked for you, but didn't?

I think my biggest gear let down has been an OCB. I know lots of people run them and like them but I just don't get it.

I keep trying "real" packs with internal frames and load lifters and all that jazz for hunting, mainly thanks to @kyler1945. I like a frame back for backpacking. And every time I pack out a deer in my schoolboys backpack I don't love it. But I can't find one I like, and they're all too dang big and fiddly and noisy.

I would rather carry my crap in a gunny sack and eat the deer where it falls than fool with any of them I have monkeyed with

Frame pack has been probably my favorite gear purchase. You'll eventually find the one that works with your style of hunting and thank @kyler1945....

SRT. Scouted and pre hung paracord loops. Then when I got to the trees and tried it wasn’t as easy as I hoped.

ROS. I love them as an addition to a platform. Still working on them as a main platform. Just not comfortable. Running pioneers and OCB right now.

Scout.
I want it to be my favorite,… it’s just a bit too small on comfort compared to ROS or a larger platform (UP/ Predator)

Frame pack- if I had the mindset that I was killing a deer every time I walked into the woods, I would only use my Pop up, even if it only had my tag & a knife in it.
Odd I really only use it when it’s cold and I have it packed up like I’m about to thru hike the AT.

Just about everything saddle related honestly.

Saddle hurt back for all day sit (rch +fleece waaay better than any manufactured saddle-for my body)

LWHC is a fight to bring up or make tighter while climbing or too loose when hunting ad needing to rotate.

JX3 is too small for my body frame and i cant shoot at anything on my entire right side for whatever reason. All the bridge straps cramp me in with almost 33” DL or something. Cant even draw

One sticking was a PITA. Aiders, rappel tether/pull rope, stick attachment method, always caught under feet or behind stick stand off. Too noisy grinding tethers up the tree compared to a LB. Watched all the 1 sticking videos on YT, way tooooooo loud

Still searching for something as convenient as a climber at tree

Ozonics unit. It was just too loud over my head. I liked the way it worked, but I couldn't hear those delicate foot steps and it drove me crazy. Early season, sweating, swirling winds, it flat out did it's job. I just like hearing the woods talk to me.

X2 on the scout! Wanted to love it and could shove the whole thing in a Fanny pack but I was uncomfortable on even short sits

Did you guys try putting a couple of ROS steps on the scout strap? Made a big difference for me.

Cheap, heavy gear. 30 inch Hawk helium's come to mind. I even stealth stripped them, like that was the main problem that needed solving, but everyone's a newbie once. I still am, but I'm slightly smarter. Yes I could carry them. No I don't want to lol.

Hey! So helpful you sold me your scout, eh?

J/k yes it does help .
I failed my own whistle test when climbing with a no stick scout. It was too easy to over climb.
debating if I’ll use the Scout with ROS and Aider this year . Prob consolidating to others

I could imagine some of the desk folks that want to get away from office would just love to hear the sound of, essentially, a computer fan starting, running/buzzing during a hunt.

Kinda funny. When i first started saddle hunting, i ran 3 full hawk sticks with aider and a cam over diy platform. Looking back several seasons now, that was probably the most efficient, easiest, quickest way i was able to set up. Ultimately i could not get comfortable in the soft style saddles.

In fact: i will come back to say that the 3 step hawk heliums are the best double step stick on the market today. Of course these are just bs opinions.
