if there’s no separate legs on the IWOM, wouldn’t the whale tail have to pierce it to contact the tree?

unless one of the ingenious folks on here has found a work around.

if not, not a huge deal, I didn't hang from my soft saddle while wearing the iwom last year either. its possible, just not the most convenient. the predator pattern blends in really well with the snow and forest, and the iwom is comfortable for sitting in the cold

Set my new hybrid up today.
After seeing the pack/pouch system JX3 had, I repurposed some cheap Amazon pouches and a $12 backpack from Bass Pro.

Here’s what I did to it:
>Added a handi-pak for meat hauling (also has a pocket for a hydration bladder)
>Added the Haul Straps from JX3 (mainly for layers/ bibs for late season, but I also put them over the handi-pak for added security with hauling meat as well)
>Dump pouches attached to a shock cord. I can pull them from the back of the hybrid to the front without removing the hybrid from my back. These will hold my cranford rope steps, ROS, grunt call, bow hanger, etc.. I have the shock cord attached to the pouch with a clip so that I can easily remove it, if needed to hang it in the tree
>Cheap backpack for miscellaneous items, lighter layers, kill kit, zebra cakes lol
>Added clips to the shoulder straps to secure the tether and lineman’s belt so they aren’t hanging off my side
>Gear hoist under the seat on my left hand side

Sorry for the long post, but hopefully this helps out some others.

Sold my soul, and joining the JX3 train. It should be here Tuesday.

Super excited as my main issue with saddle hunting (my cruzr especially) wasnt the hip pinch, but pressure on either my feet or the knees. I'm really hoping it will help allow me to be more still while sitting and hopefully be more successful.

Zero knee pain is one reason why I like it

One advantage of the JX 3. You can sit very still for a very long time. Deer see movement.
Try sitting very still in a regular saddle for a very long time.
Hip pinch and knee pain will eventually make you fidget

I sat dark to dark one day during bear season last year (in a soft saddle) and my hips still hurt when I think about it, haha.

Took the idea for adapting the old Tree Lounger foot pieces from this thread:

Tree lounge foot piece climbing platform

But designed it so the width would ride flush with the JX3 seat. Just got it finished up yesterday and got the holes drilled, but excited to “one stick” with it.

Got the hybrid out for some practice/shooting today.

Decided against the cranford rope steps.
My beast sticks are just so simple and quiet & they conveniently pack perfect horizontally on the hybrid.

I've had an intention to make this old steel climber into a saddle climbing platform for a while, cutting around the points in the lines, reinforcing with cross braces if needed, but I haven't touched it, and quite honestly can't give it away. It sat on my curb for 2 weeks and noone snagged it.

Full length Beast Sticks are one of the nicer packing sticks with the JX3. Are you hunting off the top step then?

I had planned on it, but after practicing on some leaning trees, it wasn’t great.
On a straight tree it was fine.
I ended up ordering 4 Squirrel steps from EWO.
I used them with my old JX3 and really liked them.

How’s everyone packing their sticks? I have the Novix minis and they fit fine wedged between the seat and frame pack but I’m kind of worried about the standoffs poking a hole in the seat. I may just use my sling and carry them or hang them off the fork.

I am stealing the bow carrying technique from the beginning of this video. Looks like a piece of paracord with a carabiner connected to the shoulder strap.

The Beast sticks fit perfectly across the back and fit pretty snug against the each side.

You might try packing a set of minis like I’ve got these sticks except face the standoffs away from the seat.

I primarily one stick now, but prior to that with even a small pack and an early season jacket stashed, I would get enough bulk between the seat bottom and seat / pack back ‘sandwich’ to then lay my 3 sticks across the top (pointy stuff facing away from my head) and lash em down with a combination of the two long straps, and one additional one I made from webbing. So when secured you’re looking at a closed JX3 with a little pack and jacket (or late season layers) stashed inside and 3 sticks laying horizontally across the top. It looks tidy.

But I also run a thin lightweight foam pad (secured with shock cord) on the seat for added comfort… if you do that mounting across the back might become an option without as much worry about poking the seat, because they’d be poking the pad.

I removed my Turkey seat stand-off brackets on my gen 1. I moved the belt to the inside of the frame.

I fold my seat up, and stash anything I carry behind the seat. I don’t carry sticks really, but when I did, they were fine. Your jacket, flipping them around, your foam pad, there’s lots of ways to keep them from contacting the mesh. Having said that, the stuff is bullet proof.

Everything packs better to me now that those brackets are gone and I put it behind the seat.

You know, yes, maybe it’s time for me to take those brackets off and just squash it… and I’ve lost track, how are you getting up the tree these days?

Anyone film using the mount next to the adjustment knob? I wondered if there’s a way to rig up my phone or a GoPro to record.

I’d you’re gun or crossbow hunting, it’s a jam up way to do it because you’re 99.9% going to be sitting level to shoot. You can make a cheap little arm.

Bowhunting you’ve got a 10-20% chance you’ll be leaning or cocked a little to shoot, and it might mess camera angle up.

I clipped a wide angle GoPro to this on the harness on my strong side. Had a cool hunt I had some deer come in and it worked good.

Sametop Backpack Strap Mount Quick Clip Mount Compatible with Gopro Hero 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, Session, 3+, 3, 2, 1, Hero (2018), Fusion, DJI Osmo, Xiaomi Yi Action Cameras https://a.co/d/fp5j1Lz

Also works great to clip a camera to tether or gear strap.

All that said, I don’t bring camera gear in the woods anymore. But I may rig a mini arm for phone this season and use the 1/4-20 mount in fork plate.
