Hickory Creek Koolaid

Looking for a Red dot or scope upgrade that works. Some have been mentioned throughout all of the pages, but it seems there are issues. Can we put together a list of options with pros and cons in one spot.

Post 934.

Vortex crossfire red dot reflex. It checks all boxes. I can’t find a flaw.

What kind of range are you guys getting with a red dot can you shoot 20 and 30 yards on the same aiming point?

I put this Hawke on and have been extremely happy. Decent price, good glass, I like the reticle and range finding built in (in case my range finder takes a crap), and the red/green illumination can stay off if not needed/wanted or battery dies. It is calibrated for 340 fps. With the mini limbs fully tightened, it lines up perfect with distance marks. With bolts each turned two full turns out, the marks are accurate to about 50 and off a little bit after.

Here is a broad-head at 64 yards, using the 70 yard scope mark, limb bolts turned out two full turns, aiming for center of removable block, stock DCA arrows with Muzzy Tocar HB 100g ..

Thanks. I have one of these and I want to use it.
Any issue with the string or string silencers hitting the scope?

That's impressive!

No. The scope mount can be adjusted to move it over if needed, but I don't believe I had to. The string silencers just needed to be slid on the strings closest to D-loop, not cams for them to not have a chance to hit light knob. I don't believe they would hit it, but I moved them anyway and never though about it again.

Sightmark Element 1x30 Red Dot - 2 MOA

Pros: Cheap (Got it on Amazon earlier this year for $75... think its now $99), Low Parallax (10 yards), Can option for night vision, and Highly Effective
Cons: Have to make a few tweaks to clear the string (adjustment knob is close.. imagine that rings true in a lot of them), At 1x zoom gotta get used to the limb in your view (quickly becomes a non issue after shooting with it)

2 freezer queens in the box already this year. I love the damn thing. So much so; bought my son one for his crossbow (9 years old) and he loves it. Awesome combo. I'm finding it hard to even think about bringing the compound out anymore.

Guess I've started drinking it officially...
The eagle has landed. Good thing I didn't have meetings planned this afternoon, don't even have it reassembled yet (by the looks of it that'll take about 1 minute) but this thing is sweet!

Edit: Yep that didn't take long. This thing is sweet.Screenshot_20221114-112814.png

It is a sweet killing machine of death! I took mine apart yesterday and started the rattle can camo job. I have a great flat olive base right now. Pics to follow

Make sure you heed the advice provided early on in this thread regarding the neoprene washer and lock nut on the end. It shores it up and increases its overall accuracy in my previous experience with it. Sometimes I wonder why I sold it now.

Nice! It looks like they've upgraded the scope or did you add that yourself?
i picked it up from the classifieds here from @Jimmyfunk60 (thanks again, great seller/fast communication, shipping etc, good guy but you all knew that already i think) so all ugrades at this point are his/ the way he bought it. I'm looking forward to a few additional tweaks and such and have lots of reading to catch up on. i reassembled it with a lock nut (sent with) on the front (and set screw instead of the hand screw, i think that was right?) but plan on giving it a thorough going through before i try to shoot it/ don't really care about the take down ability. will have to figure out the neoprene washer situation and any other setup tweaks, teach myself how to get used this sight, coming from an EZ-V on my compound where i dont really even range deer, it's a bit of a different system lol. who knows, maybe i'll love it, maybe i'll take it off and trade it to someone for a red dot, playing with it is going to be half the fun. first things first a good case, i heard double tennis racket cases may work, but that's the first accessory needed.

Have fun with it. I shot a nice Spring Gobbler with it the year before last and he went down 30 yards. He went by me in full strut and I aimed for the base of his fan and he flap-ran 30 yards and died right there. The arrow passed completely through him right next to his beard. It was insane how much damage it caused on that gobbler.
