Bbbbbbiiiiggg Bbbeeeaaaar, Big Bear, Big Bear!!

I Really enjoy tracking bears.
It's cool to see what do. They actually go a little bit out of their way just to walk across a log or hop up on a big rock.

Exactly!! I couldn’t believe it.

That’s cool. As much as I like seeing them, the deer tend to vacate the area when they are around and then they start attacking your cameras. but even with those negatives, I have no desire to try and drag or push a ginormous ball of dough out of the woods so they are safe around me!

I was sitting on the ground Bear hunting brushed in next to a big Red Oak when three large cubs appeared over the crest of the ridge ten yards above me. It had rained all night, and the wind was gusting so I couldn’t hear them walking before they appeared. A moment later I heard a branch snap and turned to my left to see what was probably a 300 lb sow at 15’ and eye level staring a hole threw me trying to figure out what I was. Sows with cubs are not legal so I ended up with a couple of minutes of cool video after she put the cubs up a tree at 20’.

I don’t know man that pic of that bear freaks me out though. If that’s the sow it looks like she’s saying, “I’m going to kill and eat you right now!”saying/

She definitely got my attention. As windy and wet as it was she could have been on me before I ever knew she was there had she wanted to. I wish I had better pics, but there were a total of three good size cubs in the Red Oak above her.

Very cool! The first year they opened up deer and bear at the same time in my section of NY one of the power companies went through late summer and did a alot of powerline maintenance work cutting down trees and brush to and prevent trees from falling on the main conductors that ship power. Anyway, the first day of bow season 2015 ish in that time period I was set up and I heard what sounded like two chunks of firewood clacking together about 85 yards to my north. This one stand intercepts deer coming back from feed fields in the morning to bedding on a ridgline behind the stand I was in. IT was still dark when I heard the clacking and I'm thinking it was a big buck to have made that kind of noise. As shooting light developed I heard a scuffle to my lower left and then saw two older age class cubs in the 60-80lb range jumping around the base of a hemlock and then I cought movement back out in front of me about 35 yards and here comes a sow. I mean she was bee-lining right to me and then poof, she takes off to the east on a fast run. The other two cubs I just saw before go running after her and as she turned to run there was another smaller cub that was following behind her that I didn't see at first. So four bears at this point, one sow and three cubs. Two bigger and one smaller cub. Seconds later (I was in a ladder stand) I "feel" the tap, tap of something on the lower rung of the stand and I look down and another cub had one paw on the bottom rung of the ladder stand like it was fixing to climb the ladder!!! I went "boo" and it took off in the same direction as the other bears that just spooked out. So, 5 bears under me all at once. Can't shoot bears in groups in NY.
