Team 10

Well, she won't be watching the ball drop tonight. I went out this afternoon to a small permission property I have and hunted. About 15 minutes before dark two does came easing through and I put in a perfect shot at about 14 yards. They both bolted into a briar thicket, so it was fun finding her. She didn't go too far, just into the thick stuff. After some crawling around on hands and knees in the dark I found her.

She's not the biggest deer by far and they were both the same size, so it was hard to judge them on the hoof. No matter, the landowner is happy he got some venison this evening.
Heck yeah, man! Way to stay after it.

I went out on 1/3 for my annual birthday sit. My hunt before I had found a recently fallen pine that the deer were browsing on. Hung a cam and deer were coming through between 7:30-8:30 every day. I got set up by 6:15 and wouldn't you know it here come the deer at 6:20. Not light til 7. Was at least 5 of them and they browsed and were long gone before I could do a dang thing about it. Didn't see anything after that. Man they can be frustrating sometimes. Hoping to get my son out this weekend. I might get 2 more bow sits outside of that before the season ends

Congrats!

Good for you guys who are still chipping away at it and killing deer. I may have one last opportunity next Saturday to go out with my bow but I’ve been busy and sick the last week so I’m doubtful it’ll happen. After that it’s all over for me till next season.

Sounds like a great sit. Nice buck too.

I went out yesterday and hunted from 10 to dark (5:30) at a spot that is good late season. It is a scrape line that runs from one dense bedding area to another. The two bedding areas are about 3/4 mile apart. Open hardwoods and a big pine stand separate them. I hunted up near the pine stand.

I should have gotten a bit closer, like my instincts originally told me too. I ended up setting up over the next to last crape since it had fresh activity in it. This proved wrong and I had all the deer go through and hit the end scrape. I saw 2 small one year old bucks come through at 11 am. Then I had a decent buck, in the 115 category come through at 11:15 and hang out. I hoped he would follow the rub line, but he didn't. Then I had a basket rack 6 come through and hit the scrape at 4:30.

I pulled the card on the camera I slapped up in there at the end of November when I initially checked the scrape line. At that time, it was not being used. I'm pretty sure this is the buck I saw yesterday. I will be back in there after him soon.

We still have the rest of this month to hammer away at them and if I am able, I plan to stay after them.

Yes, it was a fun hunt. I went out today and tried another spot for the evening. I didn't see any deer today. The wind was up pretty high, and I think that had them laying low. I did some tree surfing!

Well, managed to pull one out right at the buzzer. I wanted a buck but this one volunteered. It's been a weird season. I almost didn't go out with the intermittent rain and streak of no deer sightings. This was the last day for us.

Now it's time to put away the gear and get ready for spring scouting and turkeys. I have a lot of thinking to do about what made this season so tough and what I can do to avoid that this fall.

Way to stick it out and congrats!

I went out Friday AM high up in a split trunk tree. Deer came in the opposite way than I was expecting and the one trunk blocked directly how they came. It had rained the day before and was insanely quiet. I didn't know they were there until the 1st one was within 5 yards. 4 big does and a little one. Could have forced a shot at one directly underneath me but of course they split and surrounded me and I couldn't move without getting picked. I tried to be patient and wait til they all got on one side of me. Turned around. They got spooky and started to trot off so I quickly drew and merped at them to try and get them to stop. Well they took off at that lol. So dang frustrating but that was my first ever sit in that area so I'm looking forward to scouting it all and getting after them next year already! I'll get out a few times hopefully this month for some squirrels and then maybe try for some turkeys around my fishing. Hope everyone has a good "off" season

I got both my results on my bucks back from deerage.com. The first one was a little smaller antlerwise but still a pretty big bodied deer and I thought him to be 3.5 and he came back 2.5. The second one I had at 4.5+ and he came back 5.5. All in all a good season and I always enjoy seeing what the teeth tell me. The teeth results are always a reminder to me that you have to shoot what you have in your area. This 5.5 year old deer was a nice beautiful buck but he was probably only 90" if that and I doubt he'd ever get much bigger.

Something I want to start doing for sure

Do they send you the jaw back?
Believe your comment is for @redsquirrel but as I understand you just cut out the front tooth and only send that in. Looks super easy.
Yea, you don't send the jaw. You just cut out the 2 bottom incisors and send them in. It's not hard, you just have to be patient to work the root out without breaking it. This video does it on an elk which is probably a little easier due to it's size.
