2023 Hunt Plans?

I’m crossing my fingers that we get Elk tags for WY. Last year we got “Donuts” ! With 2 points and the super tag nothing. May 19th Wyoming magic day.

If not Maryland going after the Sitka. GA hunting lease with my first bear tag in my pocket. Oh ya and still waiting on my new saddle. This year ain’t boring. Scouting for turkeys tomorrow

Have you ever hunted on the coast for Sitka deer that live in the marsh? My son an I are thinking of 2024
Nope not yet, that's on the list for me as well but haven't been able to make it out there yet. There's a few other Maryland guys on here that seem to have sika pretty dialed though. As far as I know you gotta go to Alaska for sitka. ;)

In NY: Deer/Bear/Spring Gobbler/Coyote/Fox/Squirrel/Rabbit/Grouse/Woodcock/ Summer woodchucks

I have only hunter out of state once PA 2 Years ago but I enjoyed it and may get Pa/Oh/Ky/WV/tags

Iam going to GA in two weeks and I wanted to try
my hand at pigs but public doesn’t allow it then private does but I have no local contacts. May try spring gobbler there though.

My daughter lives in West Central MO thinking abouttrying to get a deer tag there and KS and maybe Ok during our firearms season up here but it’s to dream all this it’s much harder to carry it to fruition. Did I read you need preference points for KS Deer???
You can still chase hogs, just got to use a Turkey weapon like a bow, ML(I think) or shotgun…..no capacity limits anymore either!

I’m planning on doing the KY and hopefully OH too trip in November, for THE REST OF MY LIFE! The Kentucky place is my Cousin/Uncles land and it’s heaven on Earth! Morgantown btw.
Ohio is my bff’s sisters land…..it too is amazing! I can’t remember exactly, but it’s just over the border on the West side, so it’s a short ride from KY.

Back here in GA I am all public except a 5 acres homestead a friend owns that backs up to a 1000 more and it’s rural! I’m getting him back into hunting and he’s about to find out what Turkey hunting is all about April 1st! Woohoo! Let’s goooooo!

On and around our farm here in SE Iowa. I can see our house/shop from most of the ground I hunt.

Hunting plans? Lol At this rate I plan to spend my whole season inside at a machine

seriously though if we don’t get another crap ton of hurricanes, I’m planning to go to Kentucky to deer hunt and maybe do the st Vincent island whitetail hunt (still fingers crossed for the sambar hunt)
Other than those two hunts I’m at the mercy of our quota system and my wife

Struck out in AZ. Waiting on WY later this month. Just did the NM application and MT later this month. All my CO stuff is in. Still have KS deer and few elk apps. Oh turkey, I forgot about turkey.

Got another point for AZ this year. Will have 5 points. With loyalty point that will make 6 next year. Have you been there before?

Not for elk. Have hunted a bunch of dove and quail with a few ducks.

Gonna expand my horizons this year and try turkey an duck hunting. Never once thought about em before 2023. My brother talked me into giving duck hunting a try later this year. The place i hunt deer has a good bit of turkey on it, so i figured why not.
Deer hunting is my favorite, but waterfowl is close. I've got some awesome memories of being a kid in a duck blind with my grandpa and cousins, drinking hot coffee like the "grown-ups" and spilling it all over the front of my waders from laughing at their stories/scrambling to get ready for ducks that suddenly pitch in from nowhere

Man this thread has me fired up for the fall already!

I'm out of the country until June, so unfortunately no spring turkey for me. But, I plan on hiking (read:scouting) in the national forests in western VA all through the summer starting as soon as I get back. I was gifted a hand-me-down fly fishing set-up, so I plan on getting into that and doing some brook trout and small mouth fishing this summer too. This fall, hunting whitetail in VA, possibly MD, and maybe hitting MT for upland bird hunting (maybe mule deer?) again this fall. I put in for the VA elk lottery again, but not expecting much from that.

Good luck everyone!

Anticipation is killing me. Really hoping for Wyoming or New Mexico to pay off. Plus I need a refund to do another application.

My plan for this year is to get out opening day and get a doe for the freezer. After that, I'll probably hang up the bow and just fish for bass for a couple of weeks until the pressure from other hunters pushes the deer back into the areas I like to hunt. Then it will be time to do a couple of bowhunts on the edges of the heavy cover. Finally I'll break out the muzzleloader for the last week of October.

Like last year, most of my bowhunts will be within 40 minutes of the house, and I won't hunt anywhere more than an hour and a half away.
