    Cut sticks to 24". cut from the bottom of the stick not the top. then flip the top step so it is now the bottom step. mount button in hole that middle step was mounted to. then drill a new hole for the top step 1" or so from the top of the stick ( which used to be the bottom). works perfectly...

    i don't see why it would be a problem. plus, you could technically use it as a hoist line for your bow and pack. I have a friend who made his tether long for just that reason.

Even if you go to the extent of purchasing a new tube and brackets from doublesteps and remaking the mounting method, it is still FAR cheaper...
