1/8" Amsteel Aider from Trevor Byrd

I want to be clear...I'm not recommending that anyone uses this setup if they dont feel comfortable with it. I feel safe with this setup because of the three point body contact with both hands on top step and foot in aider as stated above. I also use a linemans belt as an additional point of...

1/8" Amsteel Aider from Trevor Byrd

I was originally going to run just amsteel on the aider but Trevor suggested the tubing seen in the pics, the weight helps hold them in place. 15 plus mph wind yesterday and they stayed pretty still. I think the low profile of the amsteel helps in not catching the wind. When I had webbing on...

1/8" Amsteel Aider from Trevor Byrd

I havent had any problems with kick out with the webbing or amsteel although I never space more than 20" from top step and load weight by pulling on top step with my hands when stepping up on the aider.

1/8" Amsteel Aider from Trevor Byrd

I took one of the steps off and dropped it thru the loop. We made the loops larger to be able to fit the step thru.

1/8" Amsteel Aider from Trevor Byrd

I had an idea in my head and Trevor Byrd made it happen. I've been testing a one step aider on my Hawk Heliums for a while now but it was bulky and heavy, I wanted to run amsteel but have never worked with it so I messaged Trevor my idea with specs, 5 days later they're here. Super low profile...

    Bad Penetration.....Again

Maybe lack of flange and what @Harleycharlie said about glue failure.

    Bad Penetration.....Again

Are these the HIT inserts that your referring to? If so I would be concerned with the lack of a flange that rests at the tip of the arrow. I could see it slipping into the Inner diameter of the arrow and destroying the arrow like in your photos when the back of the broadhead strikes it.

    Bad Penetration.....Again

Have you checked the tune of your bow lately? My first thought would be that the arrow may not be flying flat either due to a bad tune or poor form. I'd at least start there.

HELP Just single lunged a buck

If the shot was that high, no pass through, and you didnt see any spray from aspiration, you wont have much of a blood trail to track. Dont push tonight. Let him lay close and expire, youll have a better chance of recovering him when its light out tomorrow morning. Good Luck.

    Official Saddle Hunter.

Thanks for the nice comments. This is the first targeted core buck I've gotten. He moved in 8/21 in velvet and Ive had my eye on him since. (Pic date is off...8/21 not 9/21). I'm very grateful that I was able to harvest him...just disappointed that I dont have another tag for the rut...

will deer walk through freezing water and thin ice

Yes they will. I see them walk thru the frozen river and thin ice all the time on a property i hunt late season. I dont think they get cold on they're lower legs. Less nerves than us Id guess.
